Radio Harness Question?

Just a quick question , if I buy an aftermarket Cd player, harness, and the adapter, it should all just plug in with no wire cutting , correct? thanks

Correct.

However, on the wiring harness that came with my cd player it had the ends already cut. Luckily Good Guys sells a harness for Alpines that have the plug in harness to the Metra ones.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Yeah I have the column shifter. Take out the ashtray first then they have plastic clips holding it on.

So let me get this straight (i have never installed a stereo myself) I have an '05 f-150 Screw FX4 with the stock CD player. I need to be able to hook up my ipod and the FM trans is awful. I was looking at getting an Alpine CD deck with the Ipod hookup via the RCA cables. If i buy a stereo from lets say crutchfield, they will provide me with a harness that will plug into the alpine deck and plug into the stock F150 harness? I dont want to have to splice wires together. I dont mind taking the dash apart and making it fit. Or should i just get it installed somewhere like Circuit City?

You will get an adapter harness from crutchfiekd and the radio will have it's own harness.

So you will end up with two harnesses and a mess of colored wires. You then have to solder the ends together (or crimp if you are risky).m But you will have to do some work to connect the two harnesses. Nothing will come assembled because every single radio harness is different, so there are too many combinations of vehicle harness versus radio harness.

later!

You don't really need to solder them together if you don't feel comfortable doing that. Just twist that matching ends together and make sure to wrap them up good with some electrical tape. It's easy and you shouldn't have any problems connecting the adapter harness to the head-unit harness. All of the wires are usually marked quite well and if you go through Crutchfield, I know that the colors are usually the same. Just take your time and you should be able to do it no problem.

Or.. You can order the Alpine harness and the truck harness from Good Guys and you won't have to solder or cut or twist anything.

Thanks for the responses. I figured it wasnt that easy as just plugging 2 harnesses together. I will look into crutchfield and maybe the good guys as well.

That is funny stuff, any way Crutchfield gives a free harness, and dash kit if you order a radio over $139. I think I will go for that, thanks for the help guys
