Static Shock on 05 F150??

Hi All--New F150 owner here. Had an 02 F250 and loved it. I think the 150 will be good for me though. Dark Stone King Ranch--I have a really strange question---whenever I get out of the truck, I get a static electricity shock. I know this sound silly, but it is happening to me and my wife (passengers side). Please let me know if it is just me, or is this some strange occurance on the new 150's. And, if so, what would the fix be? Thanks for your help. Another added note in reply to the post below---we live in central Florida, and although it is "winter" here, it is still fairly humid. Good point though.

Sounds like you are in a low humidity area.

Central Florida? Low humidity? Whew... Hardly.

I find myself getting zapped on occasion getting out of my 05'. Not sure what to tell you...

It has absolutely nothing to do with the make or brand of vehicle. Grab a dryer sheet and wipe down the steering wheel, seats and door panels. Humidity levels have been low enough in the last couple days for this to become noticable. As soon as our humidity goes back up it won't be a problem.

I had a real problem the last time I was in Colorado and Arizona. Got zapped constantly, got to where I was afraid to touch the car door. Pulled the fuzzy steering wheel cover off my girlfriend's car and I quit getting zapped. Funny how it didn't zap her though.

I think its the snooty "up-model" problem...no such occurence with the FX4. Musta paid extra for that!

(Sorry, had to go there when given the chance!)

(PPS-Good tip RJS)

Humidity changes day by day. CURRENTLY humidity there (Central FL) is 25% and where I live, PA is 65%. I guess I should abeen a little more precise in my statement.

That is what I meant to say.

It's too bad that we are having this shock problem when exiting the vehicle, but at least I know I'm not the only one this is happening to. I've only had my 05 KR for a week, and every single time I get out... ZAP!!! I have made several people ride with me just to see if it was only me, but we all get shocked on exiting. I called the Ford service manager and he acted like I was from outer space.

It sure seems like it happens to us uppity KR owners. Something in the way the leather was treated causing more static buildup?

I guess I'll try the dryer sheets.

Hi JRS--actually--it is still happening to me also--in all seriousness, I think it IS something to do with the KR leather. I guess I am getting used to it. Print up this thread and take it to the service manager--then maybe he will believe you. Keep me posted if you do......

Get off your KR high horse I drive an XLT and it happens to me every time I get out when I close the door. Happened in my last truck every winter also.

I get shocked everytime I get out of my truck. I doubt a defibrulator would even have an effect on me now. I probably wouldn't even know if I were struck by lightning. It's crazy.

This is definitely not normal. Something on these trucks must be ungrounded. I'm taking mine in tomorrow... with a copy of this thread!!!

It happens every single year with almost everybody. It ain't the truck, it's the operator. You will generate static electricity just by moving around. I get shocked by walking through my house in slippers and then touching the doorknob.

Try using two dryer sheets instead of one in your laundry. Discharge the static electricity before it zaps you. Dryer sheets work. If you attempt to get 'warranty' claims based on static, then the service manager has every right to laugh you off the lot.
