Question Question about PCM Reflashing

I took my F150 in to the dealer this week for the Butyl pad removal recall, and while the truck was there, I mentioned that the engine was misfiring slightly while idling after the engine was warm.

The dealership removed the butyl pad and reflashed the PCM to solve the problem with the misfiring engine.

Well, the engine still misses slightly. I don't think it's any better, but the dealer said they could not reproduce the problem. They reflashed the PCM anyway since there was a TSB for the problem.

Here's my question. Is it possible to reflash the PCM without resetting my trip meter??? When I left the dealer, my trip meter still read 320 miles, which is what it was when I dropped the truck off. That surprised me.

Just curious.

Is your truck 2WD? What you may be feeling as a miss might be an idle vibration that's present in 2WD trucks with the 5.4 3V. Engineering's working on a fix for this.

PCM updates don't affect the trip meter.

No, it's a 4x4 Lariat 5.4. I've got a little over 10k miles on it. Thanks for the information on the PCM reflash not affecting the trip meter.

I saw another PCM update was released for some trucks for a rough idle on 7 March, I dunno whether you got that one or not though.
