Post-Butyl Pad Removal...

I have a question for you, since you work for a dealer and have actually seen the contents of this kit...
I took mine in on Thursday of last week to have this recall work performed. The next day, I had my buddy take some updated pics of my Truck and noticed this gunkie, stickie stuff just below the tail light housing.
What is this sticky stuff? I am assuming that as they were removing the Butyl Pad, the liquid remains of their work ran down the inside of the bed into the tail light housing and out onto the paint, just below the tail light.
Could this ruin my paint? I washed my truck today and got about 50% of it off, but some of it was so sticky...I couldn't get it off with just car wash solution and a mit. What do you think?

I don't know what the hell that is. The acid is applied from the inside of the fender well with a rag to the surface where the butyl pad used to be only. I'd tote it back to them and find out what they did. Nothing from the recall should be observable from outside the wheel well. I might crawl under my truck later today and take some pics on how I did mine.
Well, I am definitely going to take this back in tomorrow, and see what they say and do to fix it. When I first saw it (the day after) I figured I would just try and clean it off my self, rather than risk further damage.
I am really starting to get discourage about the quality of service my dealership is offering it's customers. This should never have happened in the first place and it seems like every time I bring something end to be looked at they just give me the run-around and tell me to "watch it closer and see if it gets worse".
So far it has been small things, but it just makes me wonder....what if it were something major, what would they do then?

I had mine done today...looks like they sealed more than what the pad was originally covering with some matte black finish stuff.
When talking to my service advisor, he mentioned I was the 3rd truck in today for it. They said they attempted it on one truck and decided to send the trucks to local body shops to take care of it since it was a pain in the @ss. Works for me since they did a good job...
Everything is smooth, covers a larger area and was sealed with some black matte coating thing!
For those interested...I dropped off my truck at 8:30am and had it back at 1:00PM.

I just called today about getting the butyl pad removed from my truck, and the told me it would take a full day, drop off in the morning, pick up the next day.
Anyhow, thats fine and all, but is there any possiblity of the acid bath dripping on and messing up the tip of my exhaust (magnaflow 15821)? or I am i just being paranoid??

Had mine done on Thursday, no problems, was told there was no corrosion started.
Also was having that annoying squeeking coming from the back window. That was also taken care of. Service manager told me the back window needed to be removed to cure the problem. So far no more squeeks
. The power slider works just as well now as before.
On a side note, I asked the service manager that if I were to install a tuner would it void my warranty. He told me No, not at their dealership, G Stone Motors Middlebury, VT. He said they believe in the advantages the tuners give to the trucks and even sell the Superchips brand at their parts counter. Just the answer I was hoping to get. Just waiting on that tax return

I don't think the Acid Bath is as bad as it sounds. As you see from the pics I posted above, it made a pretty big mess on my paint. However, I can't even tell there was anything there now, so it must not be as Acidic as you would think. The worse part of it was the left over adhesive of the Butyl Pad. That stuff is pretty dang sticky.
You might want to mention your concerns to them, and check your truck over real good when you go to pick it up.

Sorry, I don't want some lot boy spraying acid-etch on my ride and scraping this butyl pad off with a paint scraper.
I'm doing this job myself.
I'll post pics and results for you all in case you feel the same way.
The acid neutralizes any corrosion that may have started. It changes color when it hits any rust, so it's kinda obvious if there's any corrosion or rust there.
Be advised, if you should ever have any problems with rust in that area of your truck after doing the recall yourself, a dealer may not honor your corrosion warranty since the recall was not completed and documented by an authorized Ford or Lincoln-Mercury store.
