Still researching. It's Borla or Magnaflow...

I got a quote from Troyer today for a 1714 and Magnaflow... We'll see how it goes...

The only thing on the Borla is that I'm going to have to wait as they don't have a system for the 05 yet. No word on when it'll be available either as I received an email back from them today...

I'd have to admit, I'm leaning towards Magnaflow... I really like the CORSA look but hate the monetary investment. I'm just not sure that I see the bang for the buck...

Since I have Magnaflow, I am very biased, but a mechanic in town today commented on how much smoother Magnaflow sounded than Flowmaster. I haven't heard the Corsa, But the only thing bad I've heard about 'em is the cost...Kevin

It all remains to be seen but, I think there may be a Magna bolted on in the coming weeks... No decisions yet though...

Not sure if I would go as far as to say the MagnaFlow is smoother than the Flowmaster? If you are looking for a ground shaking rumble get the Flowmaster (Mine was dealer installed, and I am going to Magnaflow).

I also don't think the Flowmaster does anything for performance. I was of the understanding that it actually hurts the low end torque, which is not the case with the Magnaflow. I have yet to see anything on the Flowmaster site or articles indicating any performance benefits. Since it was installed when i picked up the vehicle I couldn't tell you one way or the other.

The Magnaflow site has links to magazine articles that show the performance benefits. There is even an article on the 2004 5.4L F150 complete with before and after dyno sheet.

Here it is: http://www.magnaflow.com/05news/maga...reettrucks.asp

The article states +14.7HP and +12.6ft-lbs of torque.

Crash,
We were just talking about the sound. I didn't mean to make any kind of performance statement...Kevin

I guess I'm still a subscriber to the notion that you're really not going to get much (if any) true gain out of an exhaust system...

For me, it's purely about the asthetics and sound.

Understand, I just think you should get the best bang for the buck. The Flowmaster is definately louder all the time. (including drone)

I just wish I knew more when I bought my truck. I heard the sound of the Flowmaster and was sold. Still kicking myself for that decision. I like to do my homework before I buy, but I had no idea this site existed, which has been a wealth of information. As you noticed I am switching to the Magnaflow....

I'm definitely not going for 'loud' and thus, I, basically, eliminated the FM pretty early in this search...

Like you, I'm all about researching something before I lay the money down on the table. This decision is no different... I don't mind spending the bucks but, I'll research it until I'm blue in the face and tripping over all of the same stats, colors, options, designs, etc... etc... etc...

It's just the nature of me...

ROFLMAO... it's ashame that the "official lawnmower thread" was deleted... LMAO!

But, you see, I researched the snot out of it and, low and behold, I absolutely LOVE my Honda pushmower. I don't think I could've made a better decision! Sure, it took nearly 13+ pages of posts to come to that conclusion but, by god, I got what I wanted! LOL!

I hear ya there RP, im making myself sick trying to decide on what whell and tire combo I want as well as which exhaust. I think I might just go to the guy here in town that does custom exhaust and tell him to make it sound good. He just did my buddys 05 Ram 2500 and it sounds sweet.

Now, back to my research

Hey RP,

I called HottExhaust and talked with John about exchanging my Magnaflow 15834 cat-back for the new 16614 which correctly fits my FX4 without cutting. "No problem", he said. They are going to send the new one and a call tag for the old one. Now THAT's customer service! If you decide to go with Magnaflow these guys will do right by you.

Crash...thanks for the link to the Magnaflow install/dyno test. My 15834 is pending install. After a very satisfactory experience with an MF non-stainless dual rear system on my '97 5.4, I'm looking forward to the SS system (with those beautiful 18 inch slashed/rolled tips) on my '04.

The 15 HP and 13 TQ isn't exactly world-beating, but it's still impressive compared to the alternative losses from some baffled competitors...I favor MF's straight-thru design and gorgeous, mellow sound.

If the hottexhaust staff reads these posts, it must encourage their already great customer service (and pricing policies).
