It would be interesting to see the dyno stats on the low end for the magnaflow. I installed the sido ss borla on my 01 5.4 screw 4x4 and lost a ton of low end. No dyno numbers but after the install, the trans would shift to third gear on a decent hill and it wouldnt do it before the install. The sound was ok but i didnt like the fact i paid $500 for mellow sound and no low end. I think i will hang out for a while and see how the exhaust works before i buy a system for my 04 5.4 screw.

I could not resist the comment about lawnmowers when you mentioned researching a product Brad, I am the same way about researching and I try to get the best deal. I am not an exhaust fan (I like the quiet stock sound with my truck), but good luck in your search! I have heard/seen some nice exhaust systems in my day.

RockPick,

One word of caution on side exit exhaust systems - having lived through one. If the exit is in front of the rear tire - beware. Ford replaced the side exit exhaust on my '97 (under warranty) due to my complants about what the exhaust did to the wheel. The oxidation (even with clear coat) was realy bad.

Thanks 2stroked...

I'm definitely going with something behind the wheel (between bumper and wheel) so, hopefully, I won't have to worry about this one...

Thanks for the insight though. I really appreciate it!

RP did you look into getting two mufflers? Or do you just like to "KISS" (keep it simple)

maybe just try to install a muffler and tip, that's what i did. and it looks great! i went with a FM Super40 and the Ractive Black Chrome tip using the stock pipes. this is a cheap alternative to the SS replacement. $150<. and than a couple of years down the road you can always do the full change over since what you're looking for is basically a stock replacement SISO.

For what it's worth....

I installed the Gibson Super Truck on my truck last week, and couldn't be more happy. It has a deep mellow sound... and the drone isn't bad at all. Then when you kick it into WOT, it becomes throaty and loud.

I couldn't be happier and have recieved tons of compliments on how well it made the truck sound.

Once again, Not borla or magnaflow, and completely off the topic, but I found happiness with it.

It's like giving my 2 cents worth of peso's in an American currency thred.

Almost certainly a KISS scenario...

Thanks for the options, thoughts, and suggestions guys. I do appreciate it!

Now, I just need to get this purchase pre-approved by the treasurer...

RP,

Are you still researching, I figured you would have had the exhaust on by now.

I installed the magnaflow that exits in front of rear tire and it took 50 minutes start to finish. I did it in the driveway using only a jack. To get the stock exhaust off I unbolted the hangers from the truck, then slide the hangers off. Then i bolted the hangers back on. Good luck and post picks.

Doing a SISO side exit shouldn't take any more than 40 minutes since it certainly would be a much simpler job than a dual rear exit install. On second thought, perhaps you should allow about 2 hours...that gives you the 90 minutes y'all need to properly polish those tips before ya hit the street.
