I got Superchips problems!!!!

after i installed it on the "87 octane" setting, and from that day since, when i start my truck in the morning, or when its been settin for hours. it revs to almost 2000rpm's....and then goes down to about 1600rpms for a few seconds.... i cant recall it doin this before the install, i can tell just by the sound of the motor when i start it... what should i do?? just take the chip off, and say forget it...??

drink a beer an chill out because this is normal cold startup behavior.

It doesn't sound like a problem to me but just plug the programmer back in and reinstall your stock tune. If the issue goes away, its time to call superchips.

Normal cold start with a tuner is what I meant to imply.

Post this question in the computer chips forum and get an educated answer from mike T. He'll tell you if it's not normal, why it does it, etc.

That sounds normal for a Superchips tuner. I got the Xcalibrator and it does the same thing; it’s suppose to according to Mike.

well, lastnight it done it bad, if it is suppose to do this, then i would rather not have a tuner, cause i no it aint good for the motor to rev to 2000rpms and stay there for like 5 seconds when the motor is cold. thats like these idiots on bike, starting them and reving them wide open right away.... but anyways, iam takin it back to stock here in about an hour, and if it goes away, iam callin Superchips and see what they say.. and get a new tuner hopefully....

Even with the stock setting it will rev to about 1500 then come down to around 1000. After about 5 min it will then come down to curb idle, 5-600 RPM. The colder it is, the higher it revs, it can top out at about 2 grand. That's what it's designed to do.

It does this to heat the converters and get the emission system working sooner.

Personally I think your being paronoid. I know its your truck and you can think whatever you want, but it is normal. I have an 87 octane tune, a 93 octane tune, and a 94 octane (Superchips) and when it is cold out, my truck does the same thing, especially if it has set several hours before starting. Tbird69 explained it to you in his post. The reason you didn't notice it with the factory tune is simple, the factory tune sucks. Thats why we all buy tuners....

I have had my tuner here in MN for a long time, and mine does the same thing. (jumps up to 1800-2000 in the cold).

This winter, it has gotten as cold as -34 (Wind Chill of -69) and it does it then as well.

I have ignored it...but post what you find out from Mike Troyer if you post in that thread.

If it's bad, well, my truck is ***** anyways.

High start up engine speed with a delay to settle back down to idle is an emissions thing. It's normal.

I thought they all did this, regardless of the tuner. My stock '05 revs to about 1800 for about 4-5 seconds and drops to 1000rpms within 45 seconds, then takes another minute to get down to 800 or so. I don't like to shift it into gear if it's above 800.
