info on TSB 04-15-1 (brake rotor issue)

Can anyone help me find out if this is what im looking for?

My rotors have some rather large grooves in them and squeal at low speed stops. Im going to take it to the dealership as soon as I can, but I want to be armed and ready, as I understand that alot of times they try and pass that off as wear and tear and wont fix it for free.

I searched the forum and I think this tsb is what im looking for but couldnt find out what it says.

TSB 04-15-01 has been superseeded by 04-26-11.

Applies to 2004-05 F150s built prior to 11/18/2004 with a shudder when braking. The front rotors are to be replaced and the rack and pinion is to be inspected for a green dot on the bar code. If no green dot is present, the rack and pinion is to be replaced as well.

My brakes shudder slightly too, and mine was built April '04. I've had them resurfaced once by another dealer when I was going out of town, I think I'll replace them this time.

Quintin-

No mention of the rear rotors? I have the front end shutter indicative of warped rotors, but I have noticed the deep grooving in my rear rotors. Thanks!

Nope, nothing regarding the rears. I think the rear rotors on my truck are a little warped too, since I get a shudder when pulling down from highway speeds that feels like driving over rumble strips.

yeah, I have no shutter, but I have large grooves in my rotors. More on the rear than the front, and they also squeal pretty bad at low speed stops

Quintin, just to let you know, I have had no problems with front rotors, but the rears were really worn at 30k. Dealer replaced the rotors and pads under warranty. Will find out if that makes a difference. I did notice the rotors had the same part number, but a different suffix. Original was AA, new were AB if I remember correctly.

Quintin, maybe a stupid question but how do I get a copy of the TSB. My truck was built prior to 11/18/04 and my brakes are horrible. Thanks.

just checked...i get new brakes and a new front suspension then, since i don't have the green dot, that explains the brake shudder that the dealer said wasn't covered - eventhough i only have 8000 miles on my truck

with this kind of warranty work...does anyone know if you get a loaner car for free?

maybe i'll just leave it at the dealer when i'm in chicago for work the first two weeks of March, only a different dealer than the first one i went to

ttt - I'm got on here to do some digging about this exact same thing! My truck squeals very bad at low speed stops and shudders under hard braking.

Hey guys, good luck with your rotor issues. I have 34000 miles on my 04 f150 and Ive had my truck in several times for steering wheel shake when I brake at higher speeds 60-70 miles per hour. 1st visit they machined them, 2nd visit they replaced the front rotors, 3rd visit they replaced rear rotors and pads, 4th visit machine rotors again. Well this last time I ask them about the new rotors that ford had come out with and they checked but told me they were not aware of this. So this time they check my rotors again and tell me that their not warped, that all the other times they were but not this time, so they replace both front and rear pads again. All I know to do is just keep taking it back about every oil change and have them do this over and over at least Ill keep good brakes on the truck. So good luck guys with yours.
