Rotors?

I have 16,000 miles and the dealer is putting a second set of rotors on. I already had the original rotors cut once then replaced with an updated set now the updated version has warped in jsut under 3,000 miles. Anyone else have this problem? Thanx

I just went in for service yesterday (basic oil change and tire rotation). I asked them to look at my brakes while they were at it. Over the past week or so, I had started to notice a shudder when I was braking (felt like a warped rotor),, but it wasn't pulling to one side or the other so I couldn't pinpoint it. I had my rotors turned at 5,000 miles for severe grooving. 20,000 miles on it now and they are warping. Found out froom my service advisor that there was a problem with the early brake rotors and that Ford is going to replace my rotors at no charge. My truck was built April 04. So I don't know if all the trucks built that time or before are affected and will get new rotors. I should be getting my new rotors within the next couple of weeks because they had to order them.

Hope this helps.

time to take it in

first my trucks build date is April 2004

my brakes started whining at about 4K miles and now at 8K miles I am feeling the shudder you are talking about.

is there a TSB on this, or did you just have a good dealer?

This is not a problem isolated to the new model. Many of us with older trucks have the same problem. I have a 2003 and was unhappy when I had to turn my rotors at 8000 miles then have them replaced at 18008 miles. I am one of those drivers that live in a flat area, and I always coast to a stop. My Lincoln town car did not need any brake work until 45000 miles and I tow my boat with the Lincoln. There is a lot of great information on this site in the Brakes forum. Check it out

I am having the same problem when braking, will be taking it in either tomorrow or monday. Having them look at my tail lights as well due to heavy condensation/water in them.

I'm sure it was a TSB, but I didn't see it. My dealer is decent and my service advisor had her act together. I had read on here a while back about some people getting rotors replaced only to have the news go bad. I don't drive too aggressively, so my brakes don't get too much of a workout (just the occassional hard stop) and I let it roll the last few weeks to help dissipate the heat. Once the pads get worn down, I will probably upgrade to some slotted rotors and better pads.
