Ford recognizes paint bubbles

My brother faxed me a letter today from Ford. It basically says that some 04/05 trucks built in Norfolk, Dearborn, and KC plants have a butyl pad on the inside right hand side of the truck bed jusr forward of the tail light. This pad may cause a moisture problem and result in premature corrosion and in rare cases, it will cause the paint to bubble. HMMM..paint bubbles right where mine are. If its not bubbled there is a fix for it and they are taking care of it. If it IS bubbled, they are replacing the entire bed side. The info on which trucks are affected will be in OASIS on 2/10/05 and this fix campaign is in effect until 12/31/05. All trucks affected are job #1 built thru 9/10/04 at each of the plants. Just figured Id pass this along in case anyone has the problem and wants to get it fixed. Heres a pic of my bubbles, that will soon be GONE

I actually have 3 bubbles in all in the same area.

BREWDUDE, keep us updated with any new information you get about this. I heard from someone else about this also, and I was planning on pulling the pad off and spraying some primer up there so it doesnt rust or anything. Keep us updated!

The sticker is clear except for the area where the actual letters are. Trust me I checked. Plus like I said, I have a total of 3 bubbles and one of the is in the paint just below the sticker.

Im getting it scheduled for the repair so I will let you guys know how it all works out.

I went through this last summer with my Lariat. A word of advice to anyone with Torreador Red that faces this, make Ford repaint the entire side, because it really shows when it is two-toned. After taking it back twice for poor fitting tailgate, poor finish, and a screwed-up tonneau, I'm weighing my options on demanding a respray, or whole side repaint. Part of me is afraid to go back to the place because I get so ticked off I may literally blow a blood vessel. Just typing this I'm starting to grind my teeth.

I have this same exact problem. I took it in and got it repainted once, then it came back again, only worse. Now I live in Maryland and am trying to find a dealer around here that will give me a free loaner/rental while they have my truck.

^..I hear ya there. I have had numerous problems with dealers in this town. Thats why im going to Connecticut to get it fixed. Im sure they will give me a loaner. Im just gonna give them the truck and tell them to call me when the bed is replaced, the rear window squeak is gone, the vibration in the steering wheel is taken care of and the rear end whine is all gone. Then I'll go get it and once again enjoy my truck.
