front brakes shot at 35k
front brakes shot at 35k
i know im kinda hard on brakes but isnt 35k a little early. started hearing[and feeling] the grind sunday about 1/4 through a 200 mile round trip. trucks at the dealer now. i figure the rotors are prob. shot. looking at about 700 bucks. should i make a stink or bite the bullet cause i didnt have brake inspects every 10k like i should.
if you admit you are kind of hard on brakes, and you got 35k miles out of them, then you have nothing to complain about....
Prior to this, I also had a Sport Trac and my front pads went at 16k miles.

'03 and newer Expeditions and Navigators use basically the same setup as an '04+ F150, minus different rotors and pads, and they're extremely hard on brakes. Think like 15K miles on average. You're stopping a very heavy vehicle repeatedly several times a day. Plus to this if you're doing lots of in town stop and go driving.
dont worry about it... at least your engine made it to 35K .....
Im not replacing my brakes.. only my entire engine at 1353 miles.....

you folks are right. i just thought it was a little premature. but when i factor in that i have the h/d payload pack.8200gvwr plus tools plus product im adding another 1 to 1.5 k at any given time.thats a lotta truck to stop so maybe im lucky. learned my lesson though and will have them checked every 10k or so since its costing $1000 to replace two front rotors and pads all around. never again [i hope

Wow, that's a lot of labor charges. Brakes are fairly easy, I've done my own for the last 20 years. 2 new front discs and pads all around (parts only) should be $300-$350 tops. If you're paying $650 in labor then you're getting ripped off.
Wear items are not covered under the basic warranty,
Wiper blades, oil and filters, brake pads.
I have never even been in the same room with an extended warranty but I doubt those items are covered. If they were an extended warranty would be a good deal, which it ain't.
The exception would be tires which have their own seperate warranty and batteries just because their life should exceed three years regardless of where you are and what you do.
Oil and filter degrade everyday for everybody.
Drivers in the Pacific Northwest are hard on wipers due to weather. Drivers in heavy city traffic like Atlanta will prematurely wear out their brakes.

consistent with my 98 2wd reg cab short box... which is at least 1000 lighter than a 2004 SCrew 4x4.
