Quintin,

I'd like to have the "background" on my truck if you'd be willing to look into it. My VIN is 1FTRX12534KB16756. Thanks a lot! I "supposedly" had the reflash done, but my dealer didn't put a sticker to show the modification had been done. I don't think he actually did it.

I'll check it out, no problem; Ford's website is down from 11:00 to 12:00 though, so if I don't go to bed, I'll get it then or tomorrow morning, one of the other. Bare with me.

Hey Quintin, since you work for a dealer, maybe you can answer a couple of questions for me.

When I use my OBDII reader and poll the PCM for the CIN (calibration identification number) and CVN (calibration verification number), the CIN is RXA5A3.HE and the CVN is 8ADB8D3C. How do these numbers relate to the calibration part numbers mentioned in this thread (eg. 4L3A-12A650-APE)?

Also, isn't the dealer supposed to put a sticker with the calibration number on it under the hood somewhere when they update the software? The paperwork from my latest service says they reflashed the PCM and my CIN changed (was RXA3AZ.HE) but they didn't put a sticker under the hood to indicate this.

Thanks,
GT79

Okay, here we go:

1FTRX12534KB16756

F150 LD, 5.4 3V, 2WD Supercab, warranty start date was 10/09/2004, build date was 10/07/2003, current calibration is 4F613A0A, the tires were rebalanced by Ted Russell Ford at 2516 miles, the third brake light was replaced for a water leak at 1152 miles be Dean Stallings Ford. No campaigns are currently open. PCM part number is 4L3A-12A650-AAK. How long ago was your PCM reprogrammed?

Edited to add: BigTRQ, just noticed, my truck has a 1FTPX12534NB(xxxxxx) VIN, meaning that ours was probably built close to the same time I think. Kinda neat. Edited yet again: Like a dumbass, I didn't even look at the info I provided, my truck was an April '04 build. They were probably still built at the same plant though.

I've honestly no idea. I can't reference those numbers to any Ford part numbers. What code reader are you using?

Any time an emissions related repair is done, an authorized modification label is supposed to be installed somewhere on the vehicle. Since tinkering with emissions is such a big deal, and to be used as a heads up for anyone else who may be working on the vehicle.

Oh yeah, and your VIN is missing a few characters.

Quintin,

I was "supposed" to have my unit reflashed around 12/28/04. So there is no mention of this anywhere? Since you're a dealer wrench, could you tell me something? My dealer (the Dean Stallings you listed) says that the parts for my TSB 03-26-4 repair are on backorder. Is this true? I brought the truck to him on 12/28/04 to have that TSB work done. A week later, the parts weren't in and he didn't call me to tell me that. I HAD TO CALL HIM to get it back! Had I not done this, he would STILL HAVE my truck, waiting on parts.

The dealers here around Knoxville really aren't of much help when it comes to Warranty work I've found. Any thoughts on how to coax them into helping me?

Cool thing about the VIN man

It may well have been reprogrammed. Sometimes dealers won't report minor warranty claims, especially if they're high in that repair since it may risk an audit from Ford. Some dealers just don't want to go through the paperwork. Only real way to be sure would be to try and reprogram your PCM again and verify that the latest calibration is available on it. I can't check on the status of parts availability from home, although if I remember, I can check with our parts guys tomorrow.

A lot of dealers aren't, since Ford warranty pay sucks. I'd try to find another dealer, or go over to Flatratetech.com's message forums, and post a query there, maybe there's someone in the area that can point you towards a good dealer.

Quintin,

Registered and done! I hope to hear back. Thanks for your help in this matter. What makes me the most mad is the way my selling dealer paints a picture of being the best in service for the area, yet on something like this, they won't take the initiative to keep me happy after the sale. I'd say that now, my business and that of my friends WON'T be going to them.

Quintin,
I took my truck in awhile ago for the throttle lag/stalling and the dealer updated my PCM. During my last oil change I asked what the new code was and they told me they didn't know and would have to charge me to hook up to the WDS. Can you look up anything for me? I am really wanting to get a Troyer tuner. 1FTPW14534KC00339 Thanks, Erick

I'm using a Car Code OBD-2 reader that works with a laptop.

I copied the VIN from the reader and it left out a couple of characters. The correct VIN is 1FTPW125X4KD00490

Thanks

I'm not familiar with that setup. Is it CAN network compatible?

In any case, your truck is an '04 Supercrew 4x2, 5.4 3V, build date 04/22/2004, warranty start date was 07/28/2004, 12 miles on the clock when sold, PCM calibration is 4F614A0A. There's three items on your warranty repair history, all handled on 15 December 2004, something about resealing the windshield, a vibration at idle, and reprogramming the PCM for throttle hesistation per TSB 04-21-14. All work was done by Arrington & Blount Ford.

You have three items on your warranty repair history, all dealt with at the same time; the limited slip clutch pack was replaced, the radio apparently was removed and sent to a service center for repair, and the throttle body was replaced. There's a few other labor ops listed along with the ops to replace the throttle body, but I forgot which one is for reprogramming your PCM. The way the dealership wrote it up was, "DIAG TEST REPLACED THROTTLE BODY TEST DROVE." If they did this under the service message I think they did, the PCM should have been reprogrammed. It's interesting, that message no longer exists, now only the TPS sensor is serviced instead of the complete throttle body assembly.

Thanks for the info Quintin.

Yes, the reader is CAN network compatible. Check it out at odb-2.com. It works great for the price.
