steering column rattle
clicking fixed
I finally fixed the clicking sound I have on my '04 FX4. The clicking sound could be heard all the time when turning the steering wheel 45 degrees and sometimes when driving straight. I tried the fix that others have found with pushing the plastic bushing up towards the steering wheel. That didn't fix it. What fixed it for me was spraying some white lithium grease in the plastic bushing that goes through the firewall. After doing that, no more clicking! Before I did this I was able to reproduce the noise by slightly turning the steering column by firewall.
Hope this fix will also help others.

Glad I found this thread!!!! The clicking in the wheel is driving me up the wall!
It happens more when its cold, and mainly when turning right. I will be in the dash tonight to mess with these bushings!
Will report back.

Crawled under the dash this evening and monkeyed around with the bushings. I could not move the one at the joint, but packed some thick grease around it anyway. Also put a little around the bushing through the firewall.
The result = NO MORE CLICKING!!!!!!
Hopefully it will last.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread...but I have the same problem in my '06 F150 Lariat crew cab. It has me close to selling the truck!! I climbed under the dash, and found the bushing people are talking about. I couldn't slide it up or down, but I spun it around. The sound is much less now, but is still there. I want to try the lithium grease option that people have mentioned, but am a little confused as to where it goes. Do you try to pack it in between the bushing and the shaft? Or where the bushing meets the metal disc towards the steering wheel?
Thanks!
Thanks!
