racing idle at start up

does any have a problem with there truck racing when they start it up?? it also will surge when i first start driving. so do yall think this is something that a reflash will fix?? whenever i bring this up to my dealer they alwayse give me the run around and act like they have never heard of a reflash.

Yeah, I believe they all do this. From what I've read in the past, it has something to do with CAFE. The engine warms up quicker and results in less emissions. blah blah blah....

Not sure what you have for an engine....... I've got the 4.6 and yeah, it does idle a bit high after start-up. It simmers down fairly quickly though. My brothers F-150 does the same along with my buddys Mustang. both with 4.6's.

Mine idles high for 30 sec or so on a cold start and the colder the outside temp is the higher it seems to idle. I got a 5.4

My 5.4 revs a little high on cold start-up but drops off pretty quickly. Every vehicle that I have ever had does this on cold start. It appears that the colder (to a point) it is the higher it revs. After it has warmed up the start revs are about normal.

What rpm do you consider surging?

Unless it's real high it sounds just like a rich mixture to help warm up when cold. ( Like a choke on old engines )

The engine runs at a higher RPM when started to allow the converters to warm up faster. On a -30C morning mine starts at about 1500 revs and then comes down to about 900-1000. It stays in this range for about 5-10 min. then slows to curb idle about 500 RPM.

As for the surging, go to your dealer and get the reflash done. My truck did the same thing, the reflash cured it.
