Vibration... I wonder...?
Vibration... I wonder...?
I have noticed in the 2 weeks that I have had my truck that in the morning when you start up the engine, it runs at 2000 rpm plus for a minute or two. If you shift into gear immediately and don't wait for the rpm's to come down, it slips in to gear with quite a thud.
I just wonder that if over time the "thuds" add up and then the vibration starts in the rear end around 3000 - 4000 miles like so many members here have complained about.
Just a thought!

Well it cannot be good. I always let mine drop to around 800 rpms before I even think about putting it in a gear. It's kinda like doing a neutral drop when you take it to (R) or (D) while it's turning 2000rpms. I just don't see anything GOOD coming from doing that
I'm not sure if this could be a cause though because, I believe some people's vibrations have been around since they picked up their truck with 5 miles on it.

Can't say I ever drop mine in gear with it over anything other than idle.
Thats one of the things that get under my skin...My mom is the worlds worst to get in a car and start it up and drop it in gear.

I never drop it in gear after a cold start until the idle settles down to normal. On cold days, I let it idle at least 1 min to let the engine and trans get plenty of oil circulation going on but I don’t think slapping it in gear instantly after start up has any bearing on the vibe problem.
2000 rpm ? at start up ? that can't be right.... my truck even on
the coldest of days only revs @ 1000. then it ( when warm )
sits around 500ish in park and 300ish in gear at stop...
your # 's sound excessive .....
for my engine to be at 2000 rpm i gotta be moving down the road....

My truck idles at about 650 - 700 rpm when warm. That "300ish" sounds awfully slow to me.
Be as it may, I am just used to other vehicles that when you touch the brake it will slow down immediately to idling speed.

There’s no way your engine is only idling at 300rpm’s; your tach is off.

On cold days I hit 1800rpm’s for about 5 seconds and then it drops to 1500rpm’s for about 5 seconds and then it sits at 1000rpm’s for another 10 seconds or so and then drops to about 750rpm’s and that’s my idle speed. An electronic tach is not accurate by no means and could easily be off a few hundred rpm’s one way or the other.

I certainly hope not. It seems mint, nice and smooth. maybe it's
a little higher than that, ( i'm gonna watch it tonight on the way home though ) BUT 2000 just sounded real high too me..

Here's the actual # 's. This morning at start up ( 0 degrees f )
1100 rpm for about 15 sec. then it dropped to 1000 then after it
warms up it sits around 600 ( 500 when in gear stopped at light )
NOT 300 like i wrote in an earlier reply
( sometimes i think too much )
