How far can I go??

Just wondering if anyone has pushed there fuel mileage to the limits. I was on my way home tonight and just didnt feel like getting off the parkway to get gas. I figured I had enough to get me to the rest area and get it there. This got me thinking as to how far I could really go once my low fuel light comes on. I have the 35.7 gal. fuel tank, when the low fuel light came on I then drove 21 miles, to the nearest gas station. Filled it up and it took 33.7 gal. That leaves 2 gallons in the tank. I know it depends on MY fuel mileage and how I drive, but im just wondering if anyone has driven further with their low fuel light on. Also, how far does the pickup go into the tank? Im sure I couldnt get all the fuel out. Any ideas???

There are several factors that will determine the answer.

Weather conditions, what kind of shape your in and what kind of shoes you're wearing.

12 degrees and windy, not the greatest right now, and I was wearing dress shoes.....I guess the answer is "not very far"

Thanks Raoul...I knew I could count on you for the right answers

If you really want to know how far your truck will go, then when you start to get low on fuel put a five gallon or so gas jug in the back of your truck (with gas in it) and go for a drive. When you run out you will know then fill up and go to the gas station.

I agree. When my wife's Escape was new, I ran it until the low fuel light came on several times as well as checked the fuel mileage. I calculated how much fuel was left in the tank based on the published capacity and based on my mileage, I thought I knew when I needed to buy fuel. However, it ran out early and it was so embarrasing pushing a brand new car (the 2nd Escape in town) down main street. You may not get all the fuel out of the tank based on the placement and position of the fuel pickup so carry fuel with you and do the suggested test.
