Hey RP,

I don't know if this will help or not. But I saw a install in a 250 with a pro-fit VSM mount and one of these
http://www.bracketron.com/xmain/phmini.php

He mounted this bracket sideways to fit a XM Commander.

I was thinking, If you keep the bracket straight up, It sould hold your Myfi

***edit***

here is a link to the install

I like that one... it's VERY similar to the Pro-Fit VSM.

Here's another interesting mount...

Belkin TuneDOK

This one would work and work well but, I just don't want to be looking 'downward' in an effort to see station or song titles. It's the worst feeling in the world to be looking down and catch a glimpse of brake lights in front of you...

Needless to say, I haven't mounted anything yet. I did, however, find time to wash the truck. LOL!

Sorry RP, (before you think of me as a total idiot).

I thought the problem was mounting the Myfi to the Pro-fit. I reread the posts, and realised it was the wiring, not the mounting of it.

Nice and clean, KC8LB!

What did you tap into for power, and how did you do it?
Thanks!

THe skyfi2 mobile kit comes with a cig lighter/voltage changer power plug, but I didn't want to take up a 12v plug so I bought a spare hard-wired female cig lighter receptacle at radio shack. It is the kind you would buy if you were looking to add another 12v cig lighter socket on your dash. Anyway, I spliced it into the radio wiring (+12v switched and ground) and plugged the skyfi power plug into it, taped it together so it would never come apart, and then hid it in the dash cavity behind the radio.

The pro-fit mounts are the way to go. I have had them in other vehicles as well. Mine is the VSM legend model, which actually has the mounting head that has a nice resistance swivel built in so you can position the skyfi any which way you want.

I would definately think that you could mount a myfi to it. (do they have a mobile myfi mount?) If they do I'm sure it would mount to the pro-fit because it is a industry standard amps hole pattern orginally designed for cell phones.

Can a person get to the wires that feed the 12v outlet that is up on the dash? If so, would it make sense to tap power off of that behind the dash so that the female end of the added 12v is concealed?

That is an 'always hot' point correct?

The kit comes with a cradle. This cradle can be mounted using other hardware in the box to the VSM mount I believe. This is what I'm planning on doing pending I can get those two darn wires through that tiny crease between the bezel and dash panel.

I'm very concerned about those two wires... there's just SO little room there!

Awesome DA! Thank you.

Mine will be a mirror image of yours (hopefully). I shall call it, Mini-MY.

Oh yeah... the map showing all of the beaches that you used to shield out the light from your brake light was a nice touch... especially considering that it's 22 degrees here and snowing. Thanks for rubbing it in. LOL!

Did I mention I broke a sweat while working on the installation? We just went through some nasty rain, so these 80 degree temps are a welcome visitor.

I climbed in the bed to take the picture, and the light was on for some reason. I was too lazy to turn it off. I had the map up there to protect the paint when I pried the backup light off. When I installed the SkyFi antenna, I weatherstripped the light, and when I went to replace the antenna this time, the light gave me a slight fit pulling it off. Better that than a leaky light!

Hey folks... can anyone give me a little more input on the 12v power point on the dash?

What color are the wires and which is hot/ground?

Will I be able to get to them with splice connectors? This is going on TOMORROW and I'm just trying to make sure my game plan is doable...

Thanks folks!!
