Rear Speakers

I installed new Pioneer two ways 6" x 8" in the doors all by myself. I suck at this stuf but it came out great. I got the pics from the galery online and it was perfect instructions you guys are great man.

I now have a pioneer HU that says 50x4 and a self amplified bazooka. Do you guys think I need to add an amp even though the head unit is 50x4. Sounds great but wondering if it would sound even better, By the way the factory speakers were beyond ****. XM this saturday I will post pics.

If you think it sounds great leave it alone and enjoy. If you are dead set on adding an amp make sure you dont go beyond the limitations of the speakers you bought or you will be buying speakers again shortly.

I've had my Kenwood speakers in for about a year now and they still sound great. I did not do an amplifier, but I did use the Kenwood Excelon system (Tuner/Satellite/DVD/CD) and added a powered Bazooka 6"subwoofer which fit under the rear seat fine.

Here's a link to my gallery for others who might be looking to install rear speakers.

Pepatrick,

That is a sweet nav system in your pics! What kind is it and how difficult was the install?

I have the 8 inch and it fits under the seat. Yu dont even need straps cause it kinda just fits snug under the seat. it saticks up a bit but no big deal. I tell you though my left ear hurts a bit at high volumes.

All the door speakers in our trucks are 6 x 8s correct? So it'd just be a matter of swapping out the speakers and throwing the panel back on?

I was going to put 2 12s but its becoming more of a hassel than anything and I don't even need some killer stereo. So if anyone wants 2 Kicker C12s in a box pre wired and all hit me up!

Scuba,

I installed the Pioneer 2 way 6x8s also, and they are really a very good speaker for the price. I got last years model on clearance for $40.00 at Wally world, and will problably upgrade once again to components this summer.

I also bought 1 Rockford Fosgate 12" sub, and a Kenwood amp and bridged it. It turned out AWESOME! I know the Bazooka is decent, and inexpensive, but for just a few bucks more, (I paid $150 at Crutchfield) you can build a custom cabinet, mount the sub as a downfire, and have rib cracking, butt tickling, neighbor complaining bass that'll shake the fillings out of your best friend's teeth.

I left the factory head unit with the 6-disk. I can turn the thing all the way up and no distortion what-so-ever, but the ear pressure is way to much for leaving it there unless I'm washing the truck and want to leave the tunes on. I will eventually find a new HU I like someday though, and change it out then.

By the way, for those of you that think there is no switched wire in the radio harness, there is. It's a green one next to the main positive. It works great for turning the amp on and off.

Anyway, my wife liked it so much, I had to buy her a whole new complete system for her Taurus. I think people assume we are having an early middle age crisis, but oh well.

Enjoy!
