Noise coming from my steering wheel

Hey everyone!

I'm a new-bee to the F-150 club. I just bought my FX4 in September and I'm lovin every minute of it. Love the truck!!

But... I've noticed a soft cracking noise coming from inside my steering wheel, more towards where the top part where the steering wheel rotates on top of the column.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions other than taking it in?

Also, does anyone know the name of the grill guard they use for the FX400? I'm looking into getting it put on my truck.

Thanks in advanced!

I have a slight clicking sound whe the steering wheel hits a certain point. When I took in the service advisor siad that it is suppose to wake you up if you fall asleep while driving. Then the tech wrote that it was an issue with the suspension. 4 Wheel Parts said it is not anything they did because they do not touch the steering wheel or column. I will be having it looked at this week I will let you know what they say this time.

I think it's probably the nut behind the wheel

I had this problem when turning the wheel on the Explorer we bought a couple of months ago, i took it in to service and according to the paperwork, they took it apart and supposely replaced the wheel, the noise is now gone, BUT I know for a fact they did NOT replace the wheel cause there was a dimple in the leather wraped cover and the exact dimple is still there.

Well it took the tech a little while but he found my brake line rubbing on the steering shaft. They said it was something that 4 Wheel Parts did when they put the lift on for the dealer but who knows. The good news is that they between Ford and 4 Wheel Parts the problem will be resolved the bad news is that they have to make a replacement piece because it is not something that Ford carries and I will be without the truck for a few days when I bring it back. Kudos to Doug (Service Mgr at Phil Long and Jerry at 4 Wheel Parts)
