G.A.P. Grille Accent Piece Installed - With Pics

I installed the G.A.P. Grille Insert piece today.

Out of the box...

On the truck...

This is the FIVE MINUTE MOD OF THE MONTH! It literally took me longer to open the box than it did to actually install the G.A.P. Insert piece.

Subtle modifications like this make a world of difference in visual appearance in my opinion. Details make the truck...

If anyone is interested, Abbett Effects, LLC makes this product...

Looks great. As with the lower billet grille I have, you lose that step that is in there. There was a thread a while back asking what that opening was for. There is a step in there so that you can reach up into the engine compartment. I like it though! JP

RP, Is it as easily removed to utilize that step? Ya think there are only so many cycles before failure? THX

You can stick your foot in there and use it as a step to reach the engine compartment. However, you lose it whn you put a grill insert in. JP

Looks good RP! I can't believe they designed that as a step - never would've guessed that was what the 'black hole' was for.

It does look good. You wouldn't think such a little cheap piece of plastic would make that big of a difference.

I got one for Christmas and put it on that day. After putting it on I was standing there admiring it and my wife comes out and says "I can't believe I paid $58 for that cheesy piece of plastic".

Women just don't get it...

That is a lot of cabbage for a cheesy piece of plastic but it’s the finishing touch the grille needs. I too bit the bullet a while back. Looks good RP!

I agree, that should be an OEM piece.

You guys are right... it should've come from the factory this way but, no big deal...

The price is kind of harsh for what you get but, I stand by what I originally said in that details like this make a huge difference in look.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Got my '04 Lariat the day after Thanksgiving and the G.A.P. is all I've done to it so far except for a Penda bed mat.

They look great I think.

Material Composition

RockPick - Does the info that came with the insert say what material it is made of? I am looking at installing this peice in my truck also, but am looking to paint the insert Arizona Beige to match my trim color. Some paint will "melt" acrylic type plastics so I am interested in the material composition.

Also I am thinking about removing and painting the entire plastic insert that already is mounted and forms "the hole". It looks like this piece is held in with those pesty push to lock fasteners so I will need to purchase several new ones in case I break some of the existing ones during removal. Since you have already installed this new insert, any helpful insight will be appreciated.
