abs only kicks in when your brakes are locked up.

It does take some getting used to, but seriously, it sounds like you're saying you'd rather have the brakes locked up so you have more control

That's almost the dumbest thing I've ever heard. If you had a sports car and wanted to get creative with the driving... then yes, ABS and stability control suck. In a 3-ton truck you need all the help you can get bringing the beast to a halt.

In the 16 years I've been driving trucks equipped with rear wheel ABS I've had it engage maybe a dozen times. We're talking about 350,000 miles of driving and half of that pulling a trailer. Every time it engaged was in a panic stop situation and it allowed me to stop quicker than I could have otherwise.

I agree with the other posters- you're an idiot for considering disconnecting the antilock brakes.

just pull the ABS fuse. I did it in a couple of my work trucks over the years. I've gotten now so that I'm use to them and kinda of like being able to just slam on the brakes and let the truck do all the work

A drunk in an old Explorer pulled in front of me two days ago. The ABS saved my ***. No time to think, just nailed the brake. The ABS was the roughest I've experianced. A shudder through the whole chassis. But I had control, and was able to steer as I dodged the drunken sod. Missed him by less than a foot. Watched as he went on to plow into another car after running the stop. Now I have to testify, but that's a heck of a lot better than being in the wreck.

just be forewarned, don't get into any accident without that fuse in...you could be opening yourself up for a major lawsuit if someone catches on that you disabled a primary safety feature of your truck.

I think the consensus is unanimous here. Disconnecting your ABS system is pretty much a stupid idea. Just because you dont like it is not a good reason to disconnect it.
You will never even know it exists unless you need it. If you need it you will wish you had it. some how that sounds like a yogiism.
