Fog lights without the High Beam Override.
Got the high beam to stop turning off the fog/driving lights. Right now I have a easy fix, but looking at doing something this weekend to make it look cleaner. Either way, if you screw this up its only going to cost you the price of a relay, about $3-10.
Based on the drawing that "momalle1" gave me...
You need to ground pin 1 of relay 202. To locate the relay open your F150 owners manual and look at the drawing for the fuse block that is located by the passengers feet. Find R202, pull it, then bend pin 1 (says it on bottom of relay)around and up the side of the relay so that when you put it in it will not short out anything. Now you can either solder or put a spade lug on the exposed terminal and tie the other end with wire to ground, or the frame. Now your fog/driving lights will run when you tell them to via the stock switch.
I plan on taking the fuse block apart and see if there is a wire on the inside that can be cut and a new one run to ground. Either way if you want to reverse this and put it back to stock all you need to do is bend pin 1 back into place, if you break it you can always get a new relay.

As far as legal BS, your on your own. I am aware that this is not legal in all states but I live in a fricken desert and the extra light is nice to have when you are in the middle of nowhere.

The mod works, I have it running as of yesterday. I decided I am going to leave the relay with the tab bend up and wire soldered to it rather than modify the fuse panel. This way when I sell the truck I can put it back to stock rather easily. The fog lights will work in park, high, and low beam. The fog lamp switch can not be activated with the lights off, its becasue the switch was mechanically made this way. I have no plans of tearing apart the stock switch to do this. Another way to look at this is as long as the fog lamp switch is pulled out, the fog lights are on. I will try to put some pictures up in the next few days.

Still no pictures, but here is an electrical drawing that I have of the mod in PDF.
foglight highbeam override fix
The X represents a break in the line which is done when pin 1 of the relay is bent up and out of the way. The ground point on the frame is on the lower right side of the fuse panel.

Sorry to bring this up front again, but I just wanted to thank Zman for this post.
For those who have thought about doing this and haven't, it's about as easy a mod as it gets. Takes about 5 minutes.
You'll need an 8mm socket or equal for the ground screw, and about a 10 inch wire either soldered or attached with a spade. I did the spade.
Very simple.
Thanks again Zman!

I know this is an old old thread, but has anyone w/ the autolamp feature done this?
I leave my switch in the auto position with it pulled out for fogs, so my headlights and foglights go on automatically when I start the truck if it's dark enough. So if I do this mod will the fog lights go off with auto or will I have to turn them off every time I get out of the truck?

I don't have foglights but if I were to consider purchasing say...an '06 bumper couldn't I just wire the foglights to a standard switch in the cab? A light is a light and all lights have pretty simple circuitry that determines if electricity is powering the light (on) or not (off).
Am I unaware of something here?

Some states take VA for ex. when you have the vehicle inspected they test the lights if you have fogs to see if they cut off when the high beams are on and make sure they dont come on by themselves.

they test because it is illegal in most (if not all jurisdictions) to run high beams and fogs at the same time.
High beams are considered to be running 4 lights. If you add fogs, that makes it 6 forward facing lights.
So be aware of this before you attempt the mod.

It sounds like you're talking about tapping in the control circuit for the fog lamp relay to the factory headlight switch. If you do this you should tap into the parking light circuit because if you tap into the low beam circuit then power will be taken away when you turn the high beams on and your fogs will go out. Fogs off w/ high beams is the legal way however.
If you want to have your fog lights on only with no other lights at all then you need an additional switch. The factory switch wont even do that for you unless you take it apart and modify it so it can be pulled out in the off position.

I know it is illegal to have more than 6 driving lamps on while on the road, but lets be serious. You're not going to have your high beams on in the first place if they're bothering other drivers... unless your an a-hole! I only have my high beams on when I'm offroad or when I'm driving on the road at night when there's no other cars around and I don't any cop is going to bust me for that... unless he's an a-hole like the people who blind you w/ their high beams.
