What bed cover to get?
What bed cover to get?
I don't really like the fiber glass tonneau covers because I think they add to the already large height of the bed. I prefer the ones that lay flush with the top of the bed. I've seen just plain vinyl covers and also ones that are jointed and roll up into a box at the front of the bed. Who makes these? Are they expensive?
The fiberglass covers don't add to the height of the bed when they are open (i.e. access over the tailgate is not any worse.) So are you interested in not visually increasing the height of the bed?
I wanted a perfectly flat cover for the look I was going for, so I put a Snugtop glass cover on. Most of the non-glass cover options seem less expensive.

Okay yeah undercover is the style that I don't like it increase the visual height of the bed in my opinion.
Retrax sounds like the style I'm thinking about. However are the roll away style covers water proof? The big fiberglass style like undercover come up and over the bed rails so it's obvious that water can't get in. But on the roll aways I don't understand how they or if they pull off being water tight.

Matching Cover
Pictures are not that good (old digital camera), but I went with a matching Leer hard top. Takes two to remove it, but then I don't haul a lot in the bed anyway. Works for me.

The undercover doesn't add as much hieght as you think. I've seen those horrifing ARE or whatever covers that tack on nearly 4-6" of height. Bleh! To each his own! I also looked at the jackrabbit thing-a-ma-doo, but way overpriced!
I also owned a fold-a-cover and a buddy had one. Few years later they start to fall apart... the long-term quality is just NOT there..

Undercovers are nice and simple.
A.R.E. covers do not add 6" of extra "hieght".
They have the illusion of being tall because they wrap over the rail and cover the plastic trim. They are also have the raised center section which is around 1" tall and adds support. Have you seen the flat covers which are several years old? They bow downwards because there was no support.
