Motortrend 1 year update

"So far, it's meeting our every expectation, and there are no problems to report."

From The Logbook
"Every time I climb into the new-gen F-150, I'm surprised and delighted by how inviting the interior is."

I suppose, "no problems to report", is refering to the one MT purchased and tested?

Oh good grief. Can't the online critics give the new F150 a break just for one second. Yes, we've all heard of some problems here and there...bla, bla, bla. I would imagine if Motortrend had evidence there were widespread problems, they would have noted it....even if there were no problems in their own truck. Bottom line is, the vast majority of these trucks are just fine and are awesome. Then you have some that have problems. Find me a car/truck WITHOUT problems during the manufacturing process (large volume models).

Another car rag blew up the rear end in a Titan towing, I don't remember which one though.

Edmunds.com's long term F150 got side swiped two or three months into their ownership, did like $4000 worth of damage.

If it's got breastsesesesss or tires...

Mileage is only 2163

I love my truck, and other than the fuel door breaking and the idiots at the dealership scratching the wheels, it has served me perfectly for 5 months and ~4100 miles; but the MotorTrend test truck only got 2163 miles during the one year test. (see table at bottom of article).

Now someone is going to say, my truck had problems at 150 miles and someone else will say I have driven mine for 25,000 miles for the cost of gas, oil and filters.

I think MotorTrend should have put it through the paces (mega mileage, towing, off-roading etc) if they were gonna do a 1-year report/update. Hell, I'll come work for them and drive a new F150 around for a year and write an article...I wonder if they are hiring???

Yeah, if they need a test driver...I'll drive it. And leave mine sitting in the driveway to save it for the future. And by the way, I'm at 20K now with no problems. But anyway, this is an old dead horse that's been beaten to a pulp. I get tired of defending the truck...lol Oh well. Problems happen now and then and I could just as easily ave been one with a problem. And because of that I won't say the truck (or any other vehicle) is 'perfect'. It's just life. I think we need to deal with it and move on. Easy to say if you have no problems, but what the heck are we supposed to say? Nothing is perfect.

I think Ford is a victim of their own success. They advertised and produced a truck quieter and smoother than had been produced by anyone before. The vibrations and noise that people are now complaining about have probably always been there in all trucks but they were either drowned out or overpowered by normal truck sounds and feel. What we once considered normal truck, is unacceptable now.

I have to agree. This is not the first F-150 I owned. My first was a 95 5.0 X cab 4x2. It was a nice truck, rode very well. But it was way louder then this truck. My other truck is way louder then this truck (97 ranger, flowmaster, yep, it makes noise.)

Since I was a baby my dad had a F-150. First a 77, 79, 91 and his 01 he has now. My grandpa was the same way. He has owned a F-150 since the 60's. Ford continued to make them better, this is the best by far. Some people just complain about everything.

Its still a truck, its not a BMW, you want a BMW, buy one, dont buy a F-150 and complain that its not BMW quality.

MT pisses me off though. In there test of the 05 Stang GT they complained that it does not have the smooth feel of jap cars. Well, ITS NOT A JAP CAR! Its a RWD v-8 powered 300 hp rocket on wheels and looks WAY better then anything from japan. Need I say more?

As lariatf150 says, “Nothing is perfect”. I know I’ve said my truck is perfect on several occasions because that’s how I perceive it and perception sometimes is reality and I’m 100% satisfied with it and that’s what counts.

You must think I'm retarded. I have owned a 96 F150, 97 F150, 2000 F150 and a 2003 Supercrew F150. NONE of these trucks vibrated like my 04 F150. You hook a trailer to my 04 F150 and it will start to destroy itself.

If you think this truck is so refined that I never felt problems with all of my previous trucks, thats just ridiculous. Some of these trucks are seriously screwed up and after being in production for so long it's just amazing Ford still has no clue what to do with them or how to repair them.

If you were spending mornings and evenings at the Ford dealer putting up with service writers, service managers, moving back and forth between rental cars and constant phone calls saying come pick it up because we don't know how to fix it, YOU WOULD BE PISSED OFF TOO!

I feel a lot better now.

I read anything a car rag has to say with a grain of salt. If *I* want to find out something about a vehicle I'm interested in, I'll go and drive it myself, thank you very much.

And I'm at 14,000 miles with no serious problems so far. Slight brake pulsation and a dash rattle are probably by two biggest concerns at the moment.

I couldn't have said it better than Stunna. I must be a moron.

Come on guys, do you really think us in the vibe tribe are that picky??

Come ride in my truck with my popup camper in tow and tell me I don't have a problem, and that I'm "overly sensitive" to vibration. This is my 3rd rear wheel drive truck and the other 2, even with tons more miles on them, drove smoother than my 150 does from 45-55mph. When I tow, I do absolutely everything I can to stay out of that speed range because it truly does feel like I'm doing damage to the driveline - at the very least, the output bearing of the tranny is getting stressed.

I guess all those people out there that had vibrating late 90's Cobras and Expeditions were just imagining things too. I'd laugh if it weren't so sad, but I was on an Expedition forum where people thought those with vibration problems were nuts too. Fortunately, my `99 was the most reliable vehicle I ever owned, and never a shade of a vibration, unlike my 150.

Ford must be the most benevolent company on the face of the earth for trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist!

I love my 150 and I'd make the same decision over again, but I want my vibration fixed.
