Hit a Camry doing 40 mph

Been driving my red F-150 since Jan. 04, always kept is washed, saved up for nerf bars, flowmaster, pin stripes, bug guard, been lucky enough not to get a scratch in any of the parking lots ive been in.
Then it happened, on my way to work on friday, was driving about 40 mph, and a Camry pulls out of a 7/11 driveway right in front of me. (i was in the 2nd lane, a big truck was in the 1st turning into the 7/11) by the time i saw him pop out in front of that truck it was too late. I hit him square on his drivers door doing 40. Whole front end took the impact, actually the interior impact was minimal, air bag did not deploy, probably cause my F150 pushed him to the side like it was nothing.
Rest assured, your F150 is designed to keep you safe.
Its in the body shop, and the shop tells me i will get it back in about 3 months due to the extensive damage, and backorder of parts. So, ive got a loaner (Buick Century) for 30 days, then i will borrow my dads '99 Ranger for the remainder of the time.
As i look out my front window and see the "Buick", i feel the need to drown my sorrows in a 24 pack of bud-light.

3 months? I've seen cars that came in on flat bed wreckers and milk crates that went back together faster than that.

At least you came out okay. Still sucks though.

Bent the chassis, so Detroit is sending a replacement via "slow boat to china"

Good grief. I know it's kinda morbid of me, but is there any way you can get pictures of the damage?

Alrighty then. I've seen a few frame damaged trucks and SUVs run through work before; most times, they're totalled.

Thanks Rock, and time will tell if they total it, actually i hope they don't, i bought mine when they first came out, (had to, lease was up on my 01 F-150), they weren't giving them away in those days like they are now. So, gussin id be upside down a thousand or so if they total it. The Camry guy admitted it was his fault, and he has farmers, so hopfully insurance won't be a hassle.

The other guys ins. should pickup up the tab for the rental for the 3 months (or however long it takes) As far as being upside down on your loan....if you have gap insurance, it'll cover it. Otherwise, I'd sue the guy that caused the accident for at least the difference. Good luck.

WTF? So the guy made a mistake and didn't see a truck when his vision was blocked by another vehicle. He's responsible enough to have a good insurance policy in place and paid for. He's being responsible and his insurance company is paying for all repairs. So you think anaheim should sue the poor bastard just because he bought a truck with no down payment and is upside down on his loan? (My old man taught me that is called 'living beyond your means')

Geez, this country is full of lazy, selfish morons who think nothing of ripping another person's guts out for personal gain. The fact that you even suggested a LAWSUIT is sad. The poor guy is already looking at a monumental financial burden but you think nothing of ripping a few more pounds of flesh off of his carcass. Heck yeah, he should pay for all repair costs and rental car. But to suggest suing him to pay for Anaheim's poor financial choices is just stupid.

Three months in the body shop just don't sound right. Even if there is damage to the frame souldn't take that long. A good shop shuold be able to turn that around in much less time unless they are awful busy right now. Good luck on your repairs, Most likely it will come out better than factory.

I'll chime in and add that 3 months is crazy, should take less than one month.

Plus, because the guy was honest enough to say it was his fault, his insurance will give you a rental truck for the whole time period you are without yours.

You don't claim a penny on your insurance, this includes rental.

Yep...same thing happened to me almost a month ago, but from the back side. I was pulling a trailor though.
I was coming home one evening and just slowed down to turn into my neiborhood when...BAM...I felt this jolt from the back. This 16 yr old kid rear-ended me doing about 40-50. Smashed the tailgate of the trailor in and bent my hitch receiver and frame a little. There was no sheet metal damage though. My truck was in the shop and out in a week. They fixed the damage and it looks excellent. I'm still working on the insurance settlement though. I was so pissed when it happened... so I feel your pain. It really sucks driving a rental when your used to driving the #1 truck. Hang in there though. You'll REALLY appreciate the day you get it back.

Oh....I got mine in January 04 also.

What in the world makes you think I said that?

3 months isnt unreasonable. I rolled my 2003 Toyota Tacoma, 11,500 in damage, estimate was 3months, had it 2 months. I think they say 3 months to be on the safe side so your not pissed when its not done in 1 month like they promised.
