Anyway, The Leer 100XQ is $1550 new. I paid ½ of that. It will cost that amount again to repair a broken window, scratches, and paint. Around $850 total to fix. The crate was smashed and glass shards littered throughout. It was defiantly done in transit. I saw pics before shipping. I was refunded close to this so it’s is still cost effective for me to fix over buying a new one. It's just a hassle having to run around getting estimates.:santa:

Through DHL but they had to hire an independant to do the trucking between states. Not DHL's fault. They made good on restitution. It's still a pain in the arsh though.
It's on My truck now and looks pretty good. I went to a Chevy dealer and talked to the service manager. He indicated Fiberglass will act as a sponge and absorbe moisture and will rot. This happens with vets and deep scratches. I need to either choose a repair shop or remove and store.

your're in the business, tell me, how much money is saved by buying primered caps? how much does it cost to paint them? I would like to know the truth so I can reformulate my opinion.
Money is not saved by doing this. Customers are saved. Most places around here do not stock shells for trucks other than maybe a few popular models in polular colors. Therefore, if you have a customer who needs a shell in two days you lose a sale because you have no product for them. If you have a primered unit you paint it and sell it to the customer the next day and he is happy. This works well for shops who have paint boths. I don't so I do not do this. However, if you have an established relationship with a body shop they can paint a top for $150 or so.

read my post--I said "paint defects or shipping damage, etc". Note the word 'defect' meaning factory screwup. I've heard with my own ears the dealer talking to leer and getting a discount due to a paint defect. I saw the numbers being dialed on the phone. I've seen them send back damaged caps. I may not know what I'm talking about, but I know I'm not a liar. I know my eyes and ears work perfectly fine.

Leer does not supply new shells for paint defects or shipping damage. You get a return # ship the unit back to Leer and they fix it and return it to you. Unless the damage is major Leer will not make the dealer a new shell. They may reimburse the dealer $20-$50 for damage.

By the way, my cap was promised in two weeks, it got to the dealer 12 days from ordering. Like I said, "The place I bought mine in Lancaster PA is one of the biggest leer dealers in the country. People come there from out of state to get things there; the volume they sell let's them have the best service around and also prices.
If you're in the business, I suggest you swing down to Lancaster, PA and check out Car-Mic Enterprises. They may be able to teach you a thing or two about customer service and dealing with vendors.
My business is fine. I have people come from other states to purchase from me. One of the major manufacturers I work with delivers usually in 1 weeks time.
I only have about 40 shells on location at the present time so I am a small fry nationally, but bigger than most dealers in my state.

Ok, I gotta give you that one. To me that's the same diff, but to others it is not.

We've shared some good info on other posts before, so let's just agree to disagree on this one and be done with it. I look forward to hearing more of your insights from the other side of the dealer issue.
