Smile Intake Mod?

What's up guys...

Newbee here just asking for some advice. I recently (Oct 04) purchased my first truck (had to be a Ford) 04 Supercab Lariat. I have to say that it has been the best truck I have ever driven, (family is a big Chevy and Dodge fan). So far nearing its first oil change 3K with no problems and now I have the itch to start modifying.

I have a question regarding intake systems. I see most of the guys here have Airaid systems. Has anyone tried the K&N product?

or Volant?

Any drawbacks with either system?

Thanks guys, good to finally start posting threads instead of reading them hehe

Personally, I'd go with the Volant. I think it's the best deisgned system, since it completely isolates the air from the engine bay (which is what you want in a COLD air intake).

Yes this is the one I ordered but am returning once it arrives. It has been verified that they are doing a redsign.

Volant being pulled thread

I have verified this with the company I ordered from. I will probably just wait to see if it comes out in Dec if not will see.

Excellent choice on the K&N. I went through an Airaid and an AEM before sticking with a K&N. Airaid was overly noisy (personal taste) and caused too many vibrations in the truck (I understand that not everone experiences this). When I confronted Airaid about it they indicated that there were a few F150 owners with similar issues. I returned it and went with the AEM. Same result. Ordered the K&N and everything is resolved. Take a look at my gallery. It has some pics of the intake and the 45 degree throttle adapter that comes with the kit. I think the adapter allows the air to flow a little smoother eliminating unwanted noise and vibration. Don't get me wrong, the K&N is still loud, just not as loud. Just my $.02

Let us know which way you go. JP

jperea,
How noisy is the K & N? Can you hear the noise while you are driving, or do you hear the noise with the hood open standing in front of the truck? Is it just on acceleration or idling? I'm wondering since I'm interested in the K & N or maybe wait for the AirForce 1 to start shipping.

You don't hear it at idle from inside the cab. If the hood is open you can hear it pulling air but it's not noisy. When you stomp the pedal to the floor, that's when you really hear it. Normal driving you'll know it's there but not obnoxious. JP

Thanks for the info. I love what you have done with your truck. Real Nice gallery. I'm looking at the Rancho Lift right now.
