Better throttle response

I just got back from picking up the truck from it's first visit to the dealer. It was in for it's first oil change, 3400 miles (I know is should have been done a month ago....)

When I dropped off the truck this morning, I asked if there was a PCM flash out that fixed the throttle lage that everyone complains about. The service manager wasn't sure and probably didn't care at the time because he hadn't had his first coffee and donut yet. He wrote it up saying I was complaining about poor throttle response.

When they called and left a message saying the truck was done, they mentioned that there was a TSB about the throttle response problem and they flashed the PCM.

Unfortunetly I picked up the truck to late to talk to anyone who knows anything about PCM's and TSB's... but the throttle response has been greatly improved. It could use a little more tweaking but it's still a lot better than what it was.

Here are the numbers that I pulled off the new sticker: mod#4U7A12A650GVA 4-17-14 and a dealer number.

Hope this helps... next time your in for service, see if they can flash it for you.

Also. The shift points seem the same and I didn't notice any changes in horse power but it's hard tell on a rainny day.

I will give another update in a day or two if I notice anything else

(build date 7/04)

sounds good.... not to throw this off topic but i thought oil changes were every 5k? Atleast thats what the service manual in back of book shows.

From what most people have said in this forum, do the first one between 2,000 and 3,000 and then follow what the manual says.

I will probably keep it under 5,000 mile for the rest.

Oil is the blood of the engine. Take care of it and it will take care of you.

Be interested to know how the truck performs after a day or so of dry pavement stomping. My truck has build date 7/04 as well, while its not a major hesitation its still there slightly.

They always recommend 3K/3Mnths in Texas, I have only done 7k in 12 mnths though!! Need to take a few more road trips next year......

I took the truck out for a run today and I'm happy to report...I like the better throttle response. It could be a little more responsive but it's enough to change my mind from getting a super tuner to fix it.

The shift points are the same and the down shifts are maybe a little quicker. I did not notice any loss in performance.

It's nice to finally be able to press the pedal and not have to wait a second or two for the truck to start moving.

How would one know if they needed a reflash? Was there a date at which the truck would've come with the most recent PCM information?

Good question? It's not like we can turn on automatic update and wait for the vendor to download it to our PC's... I mean trucks.

From what I have read, your truck get's the latest PCM flash when built and the only way to get an update is to mention a problem that has a TSB that includes a new PCM flash.

I haven't heard of anyone getting a PCM flash just because a newer one has been sent to the dealers.

How's the throttle response in the new 05 KR?

Certainly not horrible but, a bit sluggish.

It might be something that I mention the next time I have it in there...

There’s a list of all the 04 PCM codes and re-flash codes on this forum somewhere. If I find it I’ll post it up
