Porker, any more updates on the wheels and tires? I'm still banging my head against the wall trying to decide.

At one time I had decided to go with the eagle 178's and the 33" tires. Then the more I looked at your setup I decided I would go with the MB Blitz in a chrome finish and 35" tires. So i call up discount tire direct (online store) and they tell me they don't have anymore Blitz's in the chrome finish and don't have an ETA for anymore So now I'm back to the same fork in the road, go with the polished Blitz or go with the eagle 178 in chrome. But I have to admitt the more I stare at porkchop's pictures I'm leaning heavily towards his exact set up.

Ok, tell me porkchop exactly how much clearnce do you have up front? I know about the 2" trimming of the fender flare, but if you were to go off road would you have enough clearance for minor bumps and stuff? I know I sound like a dumb **** with all these questions but I'm just trying to get as much info as possible before I make my purchase.

I've taken mine through Joshua Tree National Forest last week and did not have any issues through about 80 miles of moderate and "off-road only" dirt roads most of which was at 45-55 mph.

I did have a few tree branches rake the sides of the truck which buffed out nicely though. Some portions of the road were just a little wider than a Jeep or a Ranger.

ALright guys, I know you're tired of reading this thread but I've got some more info on these polished wheels.

I just found a powder coater in my area that will apply clear powder coat to polished wheels for $50 per wheel. He said he was very familar with my concerns of polished wheels getting that oxidized look and has actually done this several times. He told me the only downside was the clear powder coat always seemed to dull the shine of the polished aluminum slightly. However, he informed me that this would be a permenent thing and they would look the same 5 years from now.

He couldn't give me a price bc he hasn't seen the wheel yet, but I asked about 2 tone. He said it could be done, but depended on how much labor would be involved with masking off the wheel. If it would be to expensive, I think the MB Blitz wheel would look really cool with DSG in those little holes.

I"m about certian this is the route I'm going to take. Unless someone has a horror story about powder coating aluminum wheels!

Red flag! Ask to see examples of the work. Or a reference from someone that has had it done. Even worse that having to polish the wheels weekly is having a finish your not happy with FOREVER... D'oh!

If you want shiny and zero-maintence, I still vote chrome. Being in a warm climate will make it much easier with the polished wheels... but I still don't trust 'em.
