I gettcha, I guess it really depends on what you want it for. For looks I guess thats cool. Good luck with it.

If you are just looking to tuck some bigger tires under your truck, go with the leveling kit since its only $100. If you want more travel and bigger tires then go with the 6" for around $1000-$1500, its worth it.
Nice truck..

Thanks.

Oh and hey another economical option would be to just put in a body lift if all you want is the look and room for bigger tires.

Actually, the levelling kits give you 2.5 inches of lift which is only 0.5 inches less than your kit. Plus an add a leaf costs about 90 bucks and adds 2 inches in back, keeping the truck fairly level. So for an extra half inch you are paying $400 more. I would have gone with the Rancho 4 inch lift. Half inch is not worth it IMHO. But I guess it will look good no matter what.

ive heard real life numbers on those spacers are way below 2.5", more like 1.75". im upgrading shocks on all 4 corners. adding the leaf and coil springs for $550. it aint a bad deal at all.

everyone keeps mentioning the rancho 4" kit which will be 1" more than ill have. not a big deal and i sure wouldnt pay $1000 for a 4" kit.

I guess with the redesign, there isn't much available right now for the 04's, even tires for the 18's are not easy to find, hopefully that will change soon. Hope the kit works well. What size tires are you looking to put on it.

I am getting the levelling kit, so I'll let you know how high it goes. The kit I got is supposed to be 2.5 inches, so we will see. I plan on putting on 12.5 inch wide tires on my stock 18 inch rims, so I figure between 33-35 dia for me, but no hurry as the original wheels are Goodyears and seem to be good tires.

Its rumored that Rancho posts it at 4" because they dont want people to think its too tall and therefor not covered by insurance. But thats just a rumor. The Rancho is almost a 6" lift.
If you are just going for cheap looks then do a body lift. The 3" Skyjacker isnt going to even come close to the look of the Rancho 4" let alone a 6". IMO when it comes to mods, you get what you pay for. I am sure the 3" looks good, but its not going to be the same as a full lift. For those who want the looks and dont want greater ground clearance or anything like that, then go with a level kit and a body lift. All that can easily be done around $500. For those who are thinking only about cost, let me give you a tip based on my personal experience....wait and get what you want done right. The old timers on this site had to listen to me complain for months about wanting the 6" lift and trying to figure out a cheaper easier way, but I held out a couple more months and did it right. Even with the 6" lift I look at it somedays and think about a 3" body. The full lift really makes the truck stand out and is not soo tall that it looks out of place. IMO this is the way the FX4s should roll out of the factory.

Do some measurements before you put this kit on. I am curious to see how much the add-a-leaf lifts the rear.....

Very true, but you will still fit in most garages. With the 6" lift and 35s it stands just under 7' at the back of the cab. Most garages are around 7-8' unless you are in DC then they are more like 5'!!!
The real problem I have with garages is the tight turing radius to park. Too many times I have parked and someone got to close to me and trapped me there for the night. I just stay away from garages now anyway. Sure I could squeeze but whatever.
Besides being the tallest is a bad itch once you have it. Its really nice to roll up on a stock FX4 at a light and the guy is starring at the truck wondering if they jipped him on the "offroad package". The real mind f#ck is the fx4 flares and red "Offroad" sticker on my truck.
