AC not so cold

Being up North (Ma.) and only having my truck 1 month I haven’t had to run the AC in hot weather. This weekend it hit a whopping 75' outside. We turned on the AC but were not refreshed. I plan to take in for a checkup but was wondering how everyone else's AC is in mild to hot weather?

I took mine in a few weeks ago for the same problem. They told me that it was working according to specifications. Well I think their specifications suck! This is by far the most pathetic AC that I have ever had in any vehicle!

My AC works great, freezes me out if I set it to low. I have heard of some troubles with them not being cold enough though. Supposedly, there’s a PCM re-flash that gets them cranking ice cold.

I have had my 2004 for about 6 weeks and have noticed that the AC is not near as cold as my '99 was. I will have to do something with it before next years warm weather.

If you have the auto climate control and use it, the next time it is blowing to warm take a look at the outside temp indicator. Every time mine would screw up the temp was way off from actual. Dealer replaced the sensor in front of the radiator. Problem solved.

Gordonzoo--the A/C problem on the '04's has been discussed constantly throughout the last few months. This topic has really been beat-up. Many, many truck owners have complained about their A/C performance on all the F-150 web sites. You can search this topic and read all about it.

Here in AZ, we had many 110+ days this summer. My A/C worked great.

Thanks M Harris. The last post also helped. I did a quick search and I read where a Tech indicated Ford reverted from a fixed orfice back to a TXV valve again (thermal expansion valve). Actually in this case I believe it's called a VOV (Variable Orifice Valve). VOV is a cheaper version as it's senses temperature at the flash area of the freon and changes orifice size appropriately, Whereas a TXV uses a bulb sensor near the end of the evaporator coil. This would make me believe my temperature delta will be better in the summer. My AC is probably OK. I'll wait till summer.
Thanks...

i really wanted a Screw cab but i settled for an 04 supercab because i didnt think the AC in a screw cab would be powerful enough for houston.

My 97 F150 supercab AC is a much much better AC system than the 04.

At best i rate the 04 as barely marginal. i just got the supercab (late october) and i dont look forward to the next Texas summer.

I must have gotten one of the good ones. On a 35C day(90F), my AC blows so cold I have to adjust the fan and temp controls to be comfortable.
