Right now, I'm running the 87 octane tune. and there is a very noticable difference in everything from shifting to throttle response to mid range acceleration. As I stated before, the 1714 is plenty of bang for my buck...Kevin

My milage stayed the same, but I run the 87 octane tune. I ran the Hi Performance no tow tune for 1 tank and really liked it. I also ran a tank on the Hi performance tow tune, didn't care for it so much but I did it right after the Hi Perf no tow so that probably swayed my opinion on that. The new shift points alone make it worth the money.

My grandfather reports 1-1.5mpg better on the 87 octane setting with his 1714.

Anyone? How is the tow mode different from the high performance mode on the 1714?

Hi folks,
I haven't read too much here but I saw this thread and thought I'd add my 2 cents. I bought the Diablo Predator tuner last month for my '02 F150 5.4 auto, which I just purchased the first of October. I started with the Diablo tune but then backed down the timing advance so I could run regular gas. It was very simple and the truck runs worlds better than stock. I wasn't happy with the way it was shifting when stock and the tuner helped but not a lot. I finally got the gumption to go in and adjust the shift pressures a little (again, very simple) and I was able to tune each shift exactly how I like it. If your 2-3 shift is a little too soft at partial throttle, you can bump it up. If the 3-4 shift is too hard at partial throttle, you can adjust that also. Then there are different parameters for WOT shifting. I thought I had screwed up buying this truck and I was ready to take a bath on it and trade it in until I got the tuner and was able to address the issues that were keeping me from enjoying this truck.

I can also scan, read and clear engine codes. This is another big thing for me. This little tuner gives me back the control over my vehicle like I used to have back when they ran on carbs and vaccuum lines. But this lets me diagnose and adjust more than I ever could before. I'll never own another vehicle without one of these tuners.

You are able to update the Predator through your computer serial port. The 1714 has to be sent out for an update. You can also backup stock & custom tunes on your computer & it has a windows based DAT viewer.

The major difference being the wealth of knowledge and personal support Troyer Performance gives F150 members. Mike is the man when it comes to tuning ford trucks, which becomes evident very quickly once you have a conversation with him. He also does the R&D in-house on every product he sells.

Can you use these tuners on multiple vehicles? My friend and I each have the 5.4 engine, could we use one tuner on both or does it somehow recognize individual trucks? It sounds like something else I need to add to my Christmas list.

Only one vehicle can be tuned at a time. If you want to tune your buddy's truck, you would first have to revert yours to stock. uploading a tuning program locks the tuner to that vin #. If not, superchips would make no money.

I found this for you, I think it answers your question.

the difference in power level on a V8 between the tow-perf and the max perf tune in the 1715 Micro Tuner is about 6-8 HP at the rear wheels

In the 1715, the towing tune is set up for a 12.0:1 A/F in open loop, whereas the maximum performance tune will yield about a 12.4-12.6:1 A/F ratio
