Shut down one of our own today....

I was heading downtown today after work to pick up my wife when I encountered a fellow F150 owner driving a 2000 XLT. Had dual pipes out the rear and I suspect a few other mods judging by the sound.

We got side by side at the lights, he looked at my '04 with a smug look and peeled off to the next light. Same thing again, smug look and peeled to the next light. Obviously he wasn't familiar with this new truck or the strength of my 5.4. By the third set of lights I had enough and I decided to educate my ignorant bretheren.

Light went green and I planted my right foot, so did he, and before he knew what happened I was in front pulling into his lane.

The look on his face at the next set of lights wasn't quite so smug, stunned better describes it. With that attitude adjustment he wasn't so eager to show off, now that he knows what these new generation F150's are capable of!My Gallery

VERY COOL!

I don't feel as confident in my '04 5.4, I guess due to the fact my other car is a Pontiac GTP which will blow the doors off most vehicles, including Mustang GT, so my F150 just doesn't seem fast to me.....

Is this 5.4 faster than most rucks, including the HEMI?

I DO LUV this truck, though!

I raced a Chevy Duramax they other day. My 04 being stock with a K&N and 33s and the Chevy had exhaust and intake and stock tires. The Duramax gave me a run but I had him by the next light. If I had intake, exhaust, and 1714 I would have smoked him for sure.

The Hemi has the 5.4's number when it comes to horsepower, but it can't match the 5.4 when it comes to torque. Our 5.4 develops 80% of it's torque at 1000 RPM. When was the last time you saw a Hemi towing a trailer?

Its funny that this post came up because i was about to post one just like it, today i was driving home from clemson to hilton head following my buddy who has a 98 nascar edition f150 and out of curiosity i called him up and told him to get side by side with me going 60 and at the count of 3 we both planted our foot. To my suprise i blew past him, i for sure thought he was going to smoke me but not in the least bit. so when we got up to a stop light we did the same thing and once again i was out in front. i have an all new respect for my truck now because all this time i thought it was slow compared to his, i guess it is just because it is so big it doesnt feel like you get half the acceleration.

This just shows how much potential there is with this 5.4. Think what a larger throttle body would do for performance!

I've taken on Hemi's and beat them. They got me off the line but in a stretch they couldn't beat me.

Hehe, thats the thing.

I think most people think our trucks are pigs, but its realy just because it only feels that way due to the ride and sound deadining. I have yet to not be able to accelerate to get into a spot in another lane or anything like that. When I need to mash the pedal it never lets me down.

THAT'S what I'm talking about. Especially after I had the reflash done.

These trucks are true sleepers!

Sorry to say, but running mid 16's to low 17's is in no way a sleeper.

And the Hemi will smoke you given the same body style and gearing. If it has the bigger 3.92's your screwed.

Thats why I want a bigger power adder!

I have to agree.
Nearly 6.5 seconds to 60 mph and 16 seconds in the 1/4 might allow for a little nap when mashing the go pedal if that's what you mean by sleeper.

I really like my truck. I can use allot of words to describe it like: awesome, incredible, what a truck! best damn truck I have ever owned, but FAST does not come to mind when I'm driving it.

I'm OLD and it takes more than mashing the gas on a 5000 lb plus truck with 300 hp to get my heart rate up.

Earth to (some) truck owners:

Pickups are slow.

All of them. F150, Titan, Chevy, whatever.

Slow.

You need to realize this.

16 second quarters are not fast.

6.5 seconds to 60 MPH and a 15-16 second 1/4 from a 5000 LBS truck isn't considered performance to you guys? The '05 Mustang GT will do 0-60 in 4.7 seconds, and run the 1/4 in 11-12 seconds. The only reason it can is because it is about 2000 LBS lighter. Take that weight off the F150 and you would see similar times if not better. Just to put things in perspective.
