Raising that rear seat!

So. now that i have a vehicle, i'm a car audio junkie =O. I've put a lot of money into speakers/amp/head unit for my truck and the only thing it is really lacking in is subwoofers. It has none! What i had my heart set on getting was an RE Audio 10" XXX Subwoofer. At the measely price of 400 dollars lol. But down to the point...

The subwoofer i want requires 7.25" mounting depth and under the seats there is only 5.25. Which means i need 2 inches or so. I would like to raise the rear seats but i haven't been able to find a lift kit online. Does naybody have a link? Or i could do it myself. It seems more difficult than in previous models so all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Andrew,

Do some cutting! You can pull some of the padding out underneath the carpeting under the seat and or, you could cut some of the support that is on the bottom on the inside of the seat.

As far as I know there arent any seat lift kits for our model trucks. The reason being, unlike the earlier models, to raise the lower rear seat you have to also raise the rear seat back and this is where the problem lies. You could probably raise the seat with some spacers mayby a half inch or so. Any more and the rear seat back wont catch on the upper catches that hold the seat back in place. Sorry for the bad news but I went through all this when I bought my truck and wanted to do something similar.

Is there room behind the seat to place the box? Does it HAVE to be under the seat?

Well, looking at the pics on Ford's site it doesn't look like there's much room behind the seats. Now maybe if they could be placed 4 inches further from the rear wall...

I had the same problem trying to put a set of Kicker Comp VRs in my Screw. I dont I bought one of the premade boxes and it was about 1 1/4to shallow for them. SO I took out my grinder and ground the bottom of the box where the magnet hit down very thing...that give me about 3/4 in ( I think the box is made out of 1in thick material) then I ground down the back of the speaker about 1/2in (it was just part of the speaker basket...I hated to do it but I dont think it will effect the sound at all) and they fit in barely. I still dont have my HU and amps installed so I cant tell you how they sound but I know they hit like the in my Jeep. As for where to get 2+ inchs.....man thats a lot...without alltering the seat bottoms somehow I dont think it can be done.

I have a custom box with two JL 10 w3's and it sounds unbelieveable. They are under the driver's side rear seat in my super cab. I'll post some pics so you can see.

Thats the same sub I wanted to use. The RE XXX is one of the best subs on the market. Just won't go under there. I wish they made a XXX 8".

No sub is going to fit behind the seat.

In regards to the back of the rear seat: The installer I took my truck to for the installation of my stereo components was surprised he wasn't going to be able to install the subs behing the seat like he did on the heritage style F150s. He said the back of the seat was pretty flush to the wall and he would instead have to do it under the seat. So, that's what he did.

For reference, I have a Lariat Supercrew. I had a custom box made for a 10" Infinity Perfect the box takes up the entire space under the 60% seat (driver side rear and middle). The sub is firing down and sounds like two 12"s to my ears. Since the truck is lifted, I have no use for the jack that was underneath the passenger side rear. So, I took it out and the guy made an amp rack for the 2 Infinity Amps. One amp powers the sub, the other powers the Infinity Kappa components in the doors. The system sounds great. The head unit is an Alpine 9831. I chose that because I didn't want an LCD screen (won't use it). And, I wanted to be able to buy the Ipod interface kit that works with Alpines and will allow me to control everything on the Ipod through the Head Unit. So, I ran the wire for the Ipod to underneath the drivers seat where I have a soft case to keep it in place while driving around and it's not in the was or taking up storage space in the dash.

I am also planning on buying the Alpine Sirius Tuner as soon as it is available next month.

So all things considered. My truck looks completely stock except for the head unit. The iPod, amps, speakers, subs, and cds (since I don't need them) are all hidden.
