NOOB question

I am getting ready to buy a f150 Lariat. From reading a lot of the posts I think the following is true - if not please correct me:

1. 285s will fit w/o a lift kit
2. Breather/intake, exhaust and tuner are necessary mods
3. There seems to be a stalling problem that a flash PCM will correct and a minor vibration problem - although my buddies truck has neither
4, Not much changed with 05 so an 04 is a good deal

Thanks in advance jk

Welcome jkbronco,

Pretty sure the 285s will work fine.

Depending on the responce you want from your truck would determine if you want the tuner/exhaust/intake.

I have the tuner and borla exhaust on mine and it does make a difference over stock, but my dad would never do this stuff to his truck so like I said it just depends on your preferance on the responce you want out of it...Necessary no, highly reccomended yes.

I have never experienced stalling or viberations out of my truck so I would not let that scare me if I wanted a f150.

I would imagine you should get a great deal on any remaining 04s left.

Now go get your new truck.

Hey jkbronco,
Welcome to the site.
The stall you are referring to is just a slight hesitation on the new 5.4 engine. It doesn't have a throttle cable,so when you depress the accelerater,it sends a signal to the pcm, rather than opening the MAF via throttle cable. A tuner will speed this process up comsiderably. Also makes an already fun vehicle to drive more enjoyable...Kevin
Oh.some members have had stalling problems, but they are in a small minority.
