04 Question about Brakes

My truck just turned over 4000 miles. I have noticed that the brake rotors are showing some deep groves truck does stop good but it doesn't just feel right sometimes. Almost like it speeds up right when I put my foot on the brake then it starts to slow down. I don't know it might just be me. But if anyone knows of anything out there that might have to do with it would you please share with me.

jo,
there have been a number of posts where some owners have had warped and grooved rotor problems. Just use the SEARCH feature (try "rotors" and limit it to the 2004-2005 F150 forum), and you should find a bunch of threads.

As far as speeding up when you hit the brakes...that's a new one to me.

You might need a smaller shoe, make sure the edge of you shoe doesn't hit the gas I have that problem sometimes!

True I haven't really thought about that. The pedals are close togather. But it don't feel like it really speeds up it feels more like metal on metal then it starts slowing down. I'm going to get the dealer to look at it I guess. I don't have any shudder in the steering wheel but from the post I have read it sounds like I might be going in that direction if it keeps on getting worse.

I'm sorry it's hard to explain sometimes over the internet. It feels like metal on metal or like the brake lines are expanding alittle or like when I start to apply brakes it takes some drag off of the rotors then starts to apply pressure or like the brakes have something on them and takes alittle bit before it cleans it's self off and starts to work.

That’s going to be warranty work. Take it in and test-drive it with the service manager or one of his reps.

I have had the same feeling about speeding up or coasting faster just before it started to slow also. Also had this on previous trucks. Always thought it was something like the torque converter locking or unlocking so the it you don't get engine braking for a split second.

Ya it just feels funny. it might be my type of driving too. I have been trying to think way ahead and start applying brakes slowly. Instead of slamming on brakes. But my brakes seem like they are getting worse. I almost rearended someone yesterday. Now that I am thinking about it it just seems like it is loosing brakes. My wife was driving it the other day and I din't think nothing about it but she almost ran over a car and said I thought you said this truck has good brakes! I didn't think nothing of it but now that I'm seeing the premature wear in the rotor it's making me suspicious. Still stops better than the Excursion but for, what 13" disc it's don't stop on a dime.
