Not sure, I thought at first it was the OBD II connector, but that is just to the right in the one picture.

just a guess

from what i've read on this board, ford occasionally pulls trucks aside just after completion and thoroughly tests them. maybe this is some onboard test equipment, for that initial test? I'm sure some folks with more knowledge of this practice can/will shoot this down, but it is just a guess... or "the man" is tracking all of your moves...lookout!

It is an aftermarket/dealer install of a anti-theft device called locktronics. it was the big rage back in the early 90's because of all of the car jackings and the threat/hysteria of the car jackings. the idea is the ignition would not start unless a special key was installed as it kills the ignigtion and the fuel pump.

if a car jacking was to take place, you would just pull the key on the way out, the car would die after 10 min and would not start unless you had one of the keys.

mom has one on her jetta and the dealer did not disable it so they left the key in the slot and said "dont lose the key or else the car wont start". I did not know it had it until 4 years later.

Thanks.........it must be disabled because there is no key for it. My dealer actually got this truck from a dealer in MD.

Would have been nice if they installed it under the dash trim. A little bracket goes a long way.

Yea, i agree with you. It will have to stay there now. I don't want to have to look down at 2 holes in the lower dash. Probably just for convenience.

anti-theft plug

I have the same thing on my 99 mustang. It was a dealer installed anti-theft device just like was stated above. Mine is not disabled and is a pita because I'm always knocking the chip loose with my knee. The dealer also installed mine poorly. When I first got the car, the wire to this plug was zip-tied to the brake pedal and eventually the brake pedal pulled the wire out from the black box in the kick panel. At the time I was at the grocery store under the dash trying to reconnect it so the car could start. I did get me like a $13 discount on my insurance, lol. Oh, and on the mustang, the black box also made the third brake light flash when the brakes are pushed.

Wink

Perhaps it has something to do with your truck being a right hand drive version? My pedals are on the left side of the cab and I don't have a plug like that! https://www.f150online.com/forums/im...ons/icon12.gif

It's left hand drive. What you are thinking is the right side kick panel is the flo-thru center console.
