Volant C.A.I. Reliability

Who has been using the Volant cold air intake for awhile? Have you had any lean burn engine problems with it ? Has it caused you engine to malfuntion in any way? Sorry for all the question's but im really leaning toward the Volant since it's a true cold air intake and not a open element under the hood. Plus the snorkle will even add air flow.

Yeah, I know what you mean. The decision wasn't to hard for me though. I wanted to stay with a plastic system not metal. That is as stupid as having an open element in your engine bay. Also I live in Cali and it is the only one with a CARB number. The K&N doesn't even have one. NOt to mention I had their FIPK II on my stang and took it out cause it sucked. I then Bought a kit from a company called C&L as well as a new Mass Air meter for my larger injectors. Then I made my own box out ox sheet metal rivets and a non heat conductive flat black paint. Turned out really nice. I had a few people ask me to make some for them.

Hope this helps

I am looking in this direction also. I will soon have a 5.4 and have the same questions. I was taken by the snorkle for added air flow. I just don't know about the open box style.

It seems to me that the majority are airaid or waiting for AF1 to come out. I guess it will again come down to what I want, seems they all work about the same but with the VOLANT is the only one I have heard talk about the lean burn.

I really like C&L products. Too bad they dont make an intake system for the 04 F150! I would buy that in an instant!

I've had the Volant with the "snorkel" for about 4 months now on the 5.4. Absolutely bada$$! Combined with my Gibson Supertruck exhaust, the roar chills my spine every time I put foot to pedal. So much for having the quietest cabin in its class.

I've been tracking my gas since I've owned the truck and noticed both power and MPG improvements with the snorkel vs. just the intake. I've haven't had so much as a single code or check engine light so far. I check often with 1714 tuner. This is my first CAI but I'd say if you can find the Volant for the 5.4 it's absolutely worth the money.

Hope this helps.

Hey Sean, hows that Supertruck Gibson exhaust sound? Is it loud? How would you describe the sound?

Do you have any other pics besides the one in your gallery? Any pics of the muffler, tips and a side shot??? Looks great!

Thanks!

I have had the Volant almost a year now, absolutely no problems, love it to death and will swear by it. I would NOT own anything else.

Sounds good, closed box for better protection of heat and dirt. Looks nice in there too.

First Beavertricks and Sean the bull"s look great. I am hoping the add will help for breathing and exhaust to improve mileage. My last tank was 14.3 mpg worst yet. I'm not driving W.O.T. but i do run 3000 rpm pulls allmost all the time. Maybe i should back down to 2200 lol it's the tuner's fault

bullitt, bluestang,

Thanks for the compliments on the bull bar/exhuast. The Supertruck is a take off from my 2001 Supercrew. It has nice low rumble. Not too loud at all and barely noticeable at cruise or idle. But you do hear it when you put foot to pedal and anyone that hears it know its not stock. I really love the square tips (they are stainless, just needs some buffing).

When I had it on the 2001. I installed it myself and it came out much better:

its nice to see someone with the same mods as i have. my volant has been in since the day i got my truck in april. no lights, or any other problems. just wondering if i want the snorkle.

i also have the gibson super truck and its definitly a good sound. not loud like a ram but not quiet. i think its the perfect combo with the intake grumble.

lonuf, those rims are hot and I completely agree with you about the sound. It's just enough. Your install looks so much better than mine. The shop that retrofitted everything had to make adjustments for the chrome running boards. I love the shine on those tips!

Do you have any cabin drone with your setup?
