btw, if I weren't exempt due to my Military status, I would be paying almost $400 for my Expy.

Mustang would run me about $300.

Hawaii is based partly on vehicle value, and wieght. crap sucks. I miss my old $55-60 a year back in Texas

Would it be worth it to challenge DMV with a weight certificate? Has anyone tried this, or know of anyone who has? I couldn't even find out what the law was regarding what exactly the weight fee is targeted at...

Afterthought: if you had custom plates, got it registered as a passenger car with camper shell; then removed camper shell... nobody would be the wiser unless you got pulled over.... hrmm....

I guess I'm just frustrated that my 10 year old truck has an $80 weight fee bringing the total registration to $198....
Don't you just love the politicians in Kalifornie? They say you can't get blood out of a turnip- well they sure as heck try. I paid a little over $400. this year on my '04 XLT. I think that's slightly more than I paid when it was new in '04. I have been driving my wife's car most of the time because it gets about 2 or 3 times the mileage that my truck gets. I probably haven't put 500 mi on it this year. Stinks, but I have no desire to get rid of it.

WOW! All I can say is that I am glad that I don't live out there. The 04 F150 costs me $85 a year for 6000lb gvw plates. For the F350 that I am hopefully trading for it will be $209 for 13,000lb gvw plates, I would hate to see what it would cost to put plates on a F350 in California...
