Rough Idle?

I have been browsing this site now for about a month and have recieved lots of good info about the o4 f-1's. About two weeks ago I got a new f-1 and have been very pleased with it. The only thing that bugs me is that when I start the engine, it idle's rough. It almost sounds to me like it has low oil pressure? Have any of you heard of this before?

by rough idle do you mean a miss . I had this in a slight form on my 150 . I think it's from ford not calibrating the fuel air mixture to its best. But when i added the supertuner it took care of the miss very smooth idle now at 550 rpms.

I'm not sure if it's missing or not. It almost feels as if the truck is running rich for about 5-10 seconds. After that it seems to run fine. Sometimes though when I pull to a stop it seems to do it again, but not very often.

Every once in while mine does the same thing when I come to a stop. My trucks only 2 weeks old I was hoping it would work itself out, but if you find out what it is please let us know~

Have them check the O2 sensors. This is the precise behavior my truck was exhibiting off the lot and after about 4 weeks it got progressively worse until the car was lurching at highway speeds. Turns out a pre-cat O2 sensor was slowly failing.

Mine just started that today. When i would come to a stop every time today, with or without A/C on, it would act as though it was going to stall. I could come to a stop then ease up a few inches then stop again and it would do the same thing. Thought it might be cause of the A/C but like i said, i tested this with the A/C off too.

My truck has a rough idle when stopped at normal temp and in gear. It goes away when i turn on the A/C. Ive noticed that the RPM are low around 525 unless the A/C is on then around 600. Took it to the dealer they said they found no codes but did run a check on thier web site and found something called an OASIS. It stated that some 04 f-150's will have vibration at idle and the egineers are working on it and not to reflash PCM or replace PCM but to keep checking back. Hopefully one day they will figure out the problem. My truck: 04 screw XLT made in Kansas City 11/03.

It’s probably because of the extremely low idle these trucks have. There was a thread in “Computer Chips” fourm that went over the subject and Troyer weighed in with an explanation.

"idle shake is inherent in ALL 5.4’s..."

I have a very very slight rough idle but, it's not all that noticable. I do notice, however, that when I start it up after having been off for a few hours, the RPMs tend to be a little bit higher for about 5 seconds and then they tone back down to a 'normal' idle RPM level...

My old 5.4 did the same thing and thus, I just disregarded it as 'normal'.

Thumbs down

Mine has had this rough idle since day one (10/03). It's been back in 2 times for it, each time they relashed the PCM. It has helped it but hardly fixed it. I have seen the OASIS message, very annoying to say the least. I hope more people post on this as it seems to be affecting many of these vehicles. There are those at the glass house that actually follow these posts......

I have a similar problem, mine growls at me on startup though.
The dealer actually replaced the cam phasers. This all started at about 9500 miles. I would start my truck and I would here a growling noise from the engine compartment and the truck would shudder. It was first noticable on first start of the day, then it progressed to every startup, then it started making the noise and shaking the truck as I was driving it. It only lasts 1-2 seconds, then the truck is back to normal.

When they replaced the CP's, my gas mileage shot up 2-3 MPG. Now 2k later, the original problem is surfacing again. Another dealer, which I will never, ever do business with again, kept my truck for 3 days and said nothing was wrong with it. So I went back to my original dealer. They could not hear the noise I was referring to but they believed me since the did the original work. They agreed to replace them a second time. I told them I am leary of that because I want to know what is causing them to go bad. It seems that the trouble should be upstream a little further.

Although they agreed to replace them, I decided to hold off. I figured I would watch my gas mileage and track the noise/rough idle. I want them to be able to reproduce the problem and see if there is another fix.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?? Anyone else have issues with their cam phasers?
