3.55 Gears and 35" tires

I have 3:55's and i was wondering how they would take 35's.... Anyone running 35's with 3:55 gears? I really dont want to do a gear change but would do one in the future. BTW i do not need to have blazing acceleration but I just dont want it to be a PIG.

You will not like 35's and 3.55's. On my 2wd 03 supercrew, I installed a Fabtech 3" lift and 33" BFG All Terrains. With the 3.55's it got HORRIBLE gas mileage, CONSTANTLY shifted in and out of overdrive and was no fun to drive! I had the 3.55's replaced with 4.10's and it was a world of difference. It really put the truck back to its factory acceleration and gas mileage figures. After it was all said and done, I really wished I had put 4.56's in the truck. GEARS are the only way to go! I just purchased an 04 F150 that has 3.55's. I am going to put the Autospring spacer in the front, install 31" Terra Grapplers and I am going to install 4.10's in the new truck. Gears are a terrific upgrade that will provide immediate improvements to your truck. Don't be fooled thinking a programmer is the way to go. PUT YOUR MONEY IN GEARS!

GEARS, GEARS, GEARS!

Just look at the chart dzervit posted. Take it from someone who had 33's and 3.55's. YOU WILL NOT LIKE IT!

HA... You'all are not making me happy to hear this..... Gears are not cheap.....I wonder if i can jack some 3.73's off of a recked truck for the time being..... But that would be kinda crappy too.

How about 3.73s and 35s.

I have 33s and 3.73s and cant really tell a difference.

So what gears should a guy run with 35s? 4.56s?

I run the 3.73s with 35s. I do notice some lag but I plan on getting the tuner, exhaust and intake to correct most of that. In the long run (i.e. out of warranty) I will probably regear to 4.56s. But even without all that the truck still runs just fine. I think the tuner will make a huge difference in correcting the shift points. But IMO 3.55 will not work.

Sorry if I'm a little late on this thread. I just bought a new 04 F150 SCrew that came with a 6" lift from the dealer and 35" tires. After reading here, I called to see if they had made any mods to the gearing. They said they had not, but they checked with Ford Tech before doing the lift and apparently there shouldn't be a problem. My stock gearing is 3.55 and I'm getting just over 11MPG with just over 700 miles on the truck now.

I do notice a loss in torque (at least compared to the 02 Z-71 I traded in on it with stock tires/wheels no lift) with this setup, but it isn't so much that I can't stand it. I have even pulled my 15' heavy guage duck boat with it once so far and didn't notice much of a problem. I do wish it had more "giddy-up", but I haven't had the money to fork over any performace mods yet.

I'm a Noob when it comes to gearing, so if I ask a dumb question, please forgive me. I was asking around some guys here at work about whether I should go 4.10 or something and they said I wouldn't be able to drive highway speeds (70-80mph) with the lower gears. You guys that have upgraded....what are your comments? Thanks.

I've got an 04 SCREW 4X4 with stock tires and 3.73 rear end and I'm looking at 35's also. I've got just under 12K miles on my truck at this point so obviously I do a lot of freeway driving. My mpg hasn't gone under 15 since I hit 10K miles but I remember averaging around 12 mpg for my first 1000 miles or so and then slowly watching it go up as the truck broke in. I just did the exhaust and autospring about 200 miles back which hasn't seemed to affect the mileage yet. I would give it some more breakin time before you see how much the lift and 35's really affect your mileage.
