Class IV hitch?

how much is the factory class IV hitch on our trucks capeable of pulling? The sticker on mine says: Weight distributing - 9500

does that mean I can pull a trailer of 9500 lbs as long as I dont go over the tounge weight?

also, if that hitch is capeable of that much weight, where do you find a ball mount and ball that is capeable of more than 6000 lbs? ive been looking all over and cant find either.

You can pull 9500lbs as long as you don't exceed the tounge weight, and as long as you don't exceed what the truck is rated for, based on engine, trans, rear axle ratio, BRAKES!, etc. The users manual should be able to tell you what the maximum capacity is based on your specific options.

Hitches and ***** are avaiable that are rated for more than 6000lbs, but you will have to look for them. You won't find them at Wal Mart, or even most chain type auto parts stores. You might need to look for a store that specializes in RV supplies, like Campworld, or search the net.

The drawbars will probably be solid, instead of the hollow ones that are readily avaiable. Also, you would also probably be looking at a 2 5/16 ball if you are getting much more than about 7000lbs. There are ***** out there that will tow more. I think the last one I got was from JC Whitney. It was solid stainless steel, 2 inch, and rated for 10,000lbs.

Ditto that. You will need a 2-5/16" ball, they are rated at 10,000lbs. I have a special ballmount that is solid and its rated for 12,000lbs, and the 2-5/16" ball thats mounted to it is rated at 10,000lbs. I know that my F150 will not likely pull that much weight, but in order to get that kind of weight capacity you will need to go to the larger ball.

We have a travel trailer (4300lbs) with the load leveling hitch and my '04 pulls it effortlessly. We also have a car hauler that weighs about 1800lbs and I have hauled our Kubota with loader (4500lbs) and the F150 pulls it great (it does not have the load levelling hitch). Both trailer have electric brakes and I would NOT pull that kind of weight without them!!!

yeah, my truck in specific is rated at 9500 lbs. I just havent seen mounts and ***** rated for more than 6000 anywhere.

I dont plan on doing any heavy towing, but I just thought that If I was going to buy a mount and ball I should get one that is rated the full amount that my truck can handle, just in case I ever do need it.

Thanks for the info, guess ill just have to search a little harder for what i need
