'04 f150 & Canopy durability
Has anyone had a canopy on there 8' box '04 f150 for a little while now? I am looking at putting a cap on mine and was wondering how a canopy will hold up with the way the bed shakes on these trucks.

Canopy? what exactly do you mean? Are you referring to a soft tonneau cover or a full truck cap? I've had a fiberglass cap since march and fit/form is exactly as the day I bought it.(I have a 6.5' bed). The bed doesn't shake, it is the whole truck itself. The bed is bolted solid to the frame. It can't shake if the truck doesn't. The cab is isolated from the rest of the truck (bed, frame, driveline, etc.) by heavy duty dampened mounts. This is one of the reasons the truck has such a comfortable ride; the cab Isolation is superb. The rest of the truck is bouncing at a different rate than the cab (and everything attached to the cab such as your mirrors and your butt). While there is some side to side movement of the bed, it is not a torsionally twisting movement that would degrade a cap in my experience anyway. If it is a cap you are looking at, go get it, and enjoy it with no worries.
Might I suggest Leer. If you don't need to worry about getting into a garage or anything, the slight rise 180 series looks real nice on these trucks. I had to worry about getting under some things, so I went with the cab high 100R. When shopping for a manufacturer/model, look for a model that has skirted sides that cover the plastic bed rails like my leer does. Some of the cheaper models don't do this, and it looks like junk. Spend an extra couple of bucks and get something quality; these trucks are too sharp not to.
