Just gotta add my 2 cents for Mossy folks here in San Diego too. Bought mine used from Mossy Nissan in Escondido. Saw the first truck I wanted there, but it got sold before I could get back in. Looked at a lot of other dealers, and came back to them when my FX4 showed up on the lot.

Good people, fair. That's saying alot for a car dealer. Double nannas.

Is there a possibility you could email how you did the install on the Shorty Antenna? I've searched high and low for an install right up on it. I've checked my owner's manual and can't find a thing.

Just a technicality, but almost anytime you change the size of your antenna you will decrease reception performance. If you live in a populated area with stong radio stations, this may not matter to you one bit, but if you can barely tune in your favorite station, this will probably make it untunable.

The radio antenna is an exact length for a reason, a little longer or a little shorter will hurt performance...

I dont think that the antenna being longer will hurt its performance. You see people with huge 8' whip antennas alot...

Also, the stock antenna is about the same heigth as the roof... If your going under a low crossing; If the antenna hits, your roof will hit.

Don't they also have a lot more power being allocated to the attennae from the CB?

Antenna Length

The antena length is a function of the intended transmit/receive frequency. As I understand it, you want to use an antenna that is 1/4 or 1/2 of the wavelength of the signal you want to receive (or transmit) for best performance. It is possible to "cheat" by using a coil somewhere on the antenna to make the antenna appear longer. The longer whip antennas you see are usually for CB or Short-Wave radios, which use lower frequencies (longer wavelength) than FM.

Heloboy is right on antenna length, but it's not the phyiscal length of the antenna that matters, it's the length of the conductive rod. That conductive rod could be rolled up into a dime-size box and still work. The problem with that is it would be expensive to manufacture, although they do exist.
The standard radio antenna on your car is made the way it is because it's cheap to manufacture. "Shorty" antennas will still catch pretty much all the waves that the long antennas do, so you shouldn't notice a difference in performance. (This is assuming I still remember something from my fields class, but I could be wrong...)

Where did you get that antenna. I want to get a shorter antenna, but I'm talking real short, like 1-2in. Like the BMWs have. I assume it would have to be amplified.

I was also thinking about getting on of thoes stick on window antennas that the Expeditions have and the just pluging up the antenna hole on the hood.

i just took mine off and cut it to the length I wanted ( I think 19") put the ball back on the top and spray painted it black where I had scuffed it up trying to get the ball on and off and whalla. Looks good and it doesn't hit pulling into the garage anymore.

Man I have so many plans for this truck, I cant even wait!!!
Those blue bulbs are cool. Where did you order them from? They look so much better than the silverstars I just put in!!!! I'm ready to swap them out again.

Blue lights? Please do update us with the number of tickets you get. I do laugh when I see people pulled over for that here in SoCal, especially at the beach cities.

Those 'whiter' looking lights you get do actually have reduced visibility. . . and people infront of you will be less likley to move out of the way on the freeway.
