chime when turning key to startup

I bought a 2004 F-150 XLT Reg. Cab 5.4L V8 recently. When I start the engine the truck sounds 1 chime and says "check gauges" on the mini display for 1 or 2 seconds, then back to odometer, temp & compass. The door is closed and my seatbelt is on. Is this normal?

On a rare occasion, mine will do the same thing. Usually, it does it when I start it for the first time of the day. I would imagine that the PCM is just going through some diagnostics. The performance isn't hampered by this on mine, and i am assuming thai the same is true for your's...Kevin

Thanks. I'll try getting the seatbelt chime off and then maybe that will make the startup chime go off too.

All the chiming and lights being on ( all your lcons on the dash
should be lit too ) and the check gauges display are absolutely normal. It'll also say door ajar if it's not closed right also. I like the
set up myself. go reg. cab.

Thanks for the info! Nice pics of your truck. I like the dark red. Looks cool.
