Question Subwoofer Rattle?

I have an FX4 Screw w/ Audiophile. When going down a bumpy road at a moderately high speed, I hear this rattle from the back seat which I believe to be the subwoofer bouncing inside the black case. Is that what I'm hearing or is it something else? If something else, what?

Does you sub sound like total crap? If not, it ain't the sub!

My money is on a door or the jack. That jack is a PITA.

Ha! Just have them order me a new one. That's a good one.

My service advisor can't sneeze near my truck unless they get the ok from Ford to do anything. Or at least that's what they say. I'll tell them to take it down a bumpy road at a decent speed and they'll come back and say, "Cannot verify the complaint."

Guigster,

That is true.....when i first took mine in i had to do it on tuesday or thursday because thats when the "radio" guy comes in...then he had to verify that it was bad....well the guy comes in and takes my truck back somewhere in the lot and about 15 minuts later the service guy comes and gets me and tells me nothing was wrong with the sub and that the radio guy turned the bass down and everything was fine....i knew it was bad because i had already tryed that for several days waiting to take it in for repair....so i had him go get the radio dude and both them came to my truck and i left the bass right where he had it..i opened the back door and had them stand ther while i turned it up and sure as chit it was rattling just like i said....as soon as the service tech. heard it he went strait to the parts dept. and ordered a new sub assembly....then after another week and a half it came in....the company that does the radio work sent the same guy out to replace the sub and i refused to have him touch it... so i had to wait another hour for a new guy to come replace the sub that is only held in with 3 screws and the plug on the amp.....for some reason ford contracts the stereo work out to some company that hires guys that cant pour **** out of a boot much less work on the stereo in my $40k truck.....take it in and let them hear the noise its making and they will take care of you im sure....if not id sure be talking to the service manager or the owner of the dealership.....

I think we're talking about two different rattles. Mine doesn't do it while it's playing. It's a loud rattle when I go over bumps that sounds like something inside the box is banging around. It woofs ok.

There is a possibility that I am a moron.

I went out to my truck during lunch to check to make sure I didn't have anything behind my subwoofer, like an ice scraper or something. I didn't, but I checked under the other seat and I have these two ratchet tie downs under there with these big metal buckles. The way they were positioned in relation to the bracket that holds the jack, they could have been causing that sound. I removed the tie downs and will see on the way home if this is what was causing the rattle.

I'll let you know of my findings tonight.

NEWSFLASH: I am NOT a moron.

It wasn't the tie down buckles. Still don't know what it is though.

Thought I found out what this was. I thought it was the seat belt buckle on the rear shoulder strap, banging against the back pillar of the cab. So I stuffed them between the seat back and the pillar. Not it.

I think I have finally found the rattle. It has only been five months. I think it is the headliner inside the cab, bouncing off the underside of the roof. How freakin' annoying. I have a SCrew so it's quite a big piece. I guess it just naturally lags a little bit in the center. Does anyone think the dealer can do anything about it?

Sounds like its time to find a new service dept. If that's their attitude about everything then you are going to get real tired of dealing with them if you aren't already. Have you got any of the "customer service" surveys from Ford?

I can't really complain about my service department lately. I actually went a different route when I got a survey and praised my advisor. Let me tell you, that did wonders. They got a big bonus and now anything I want, they take care of for me without question. That complaint of mine was months ago.

Guess I should learn to start checking the dates. Glad to hear things are better.

I had to fix this myself on my truck. If you have a sunroof its really easy. If not, you will have to take one of the rear seatbelt hangers, the coathook, and the door weatherstrip off and reach into the center area of the head liner. If you have the sunroof, take the molding off that goes around the opening and reach in through there. There is a big foam block made into the headliner that rests against a crossbrace on the roof. You need to secure the foam block to the crossbrace either with double sided tape, or better yet, epoxy. If this is what it rattling, you should also notice it being quieter when you shut your doors from the inside after you fix it.
