04 Screw Bug Shield install

Hello!
Just installed the Ford bug Shield on my 04 Screw. WOW. DIrections were tough! ANyways, THe bug shield is bascially held on by being sandwiched between the top part of the grill, correct?
Those 2 screws sure are not holding it on!! Hope this thing doesn;t come flying off. Tonneau cover install tommorow. ANother great set of directions.

Don't you love those instructions that have no words.... just pictures.

The two screw's should be connected to the clips that pinch over the edge of the hood, at the corners. Did you use the two pieces of clear tape to protect the paint? It should be a very snug fit.

Yes, with the shield sandwiched between the hood and grill it will stay in place without a problem.

I put the Ford low profile bug guard on several weeks ago. The only complaint I have is that the wipers will vibrate at around 85MPH.

Comical instructions, aren't they!

I had to use a hammer to get the clip around the tape and the edge of the hood - it really is a super-tight fit. Anyway, mine fits very nicely and doesn't move or vibrate like some others have complained about.

My bug guard has sat in my garage for nearly 2 months....after reading the directions, I was leary of putting this thing on a $40k truck. It appears my opinion of the directions is pretty consistent with that of others who have read them...what a joke!
Maybe I will get around to installing mine...kinda leary of this product....

Don't be discouraged. It's just tight clips which are better if you don't want it to come flying off. It fits great and looks great. The install is super simple. Just don't read (or should i say look at) the instructions. Anyone considering not purchasing this product because of the hammer or otherwise. Think again. The only bad thing about it is that the instructions are a PITA. (to read of course) but they are understandable.

One tip is to have 2 guys so that one can hold it while the other puts the grill back on.

I echo the comments about the instructions and the value that a second person brings to the table during the reinstallation of the grill.

Has anybody noticed that the front grill seems to be slightly out of place after the install? It looks like there is more of a gap between the grill and the front bumper cover after the install. It has been making me look for another '04 to compare to for a couple weeks since installing the bug shield.

Never looked at the gap at the bottom . My eye was caught to where the grille and bug shield meet at the ends. I was afraid to tighten bolts on the end in fear of cracking grille. I put mine on second week in may and it;s doing fine so far not loose or no wiper vibration.

you mean between the grille and hood right?! Yep, i had to take the grille off from the hood. Put the bug shield up to the hood and put in the end tabs. Then i put the grille back on.

Only thing i noticed is the hood when open is so high i had to keep pulling the hood halfway shut to see what i was doing !!!

That's freakin' funny. I have a '67 MGB Roadster that I do all my own work on and come out of it with a sore back from bending down for hours at a time in the engine bay. Then I install a bug shield on my truck and my arms almost fall off from holding them up in the air to reach the hood. I find our 4-Runner is just about the perfect height for mechanical comfort.

I just put a large towel over the radiator and hood latch so I was able to do all the work while the hood was down but not latched.

A bug guard is definetely a good investment. The quote to repaint the hood on the minivan is $550.

Plus it looks great...
