I'd check with your dealer if the volume doesn't automatically reduce when the RSS beeps. It sounds like a defect to me. It would be silly to have RSS and not have the radio volume reduce when it beeps. I could be wrong, but I would think that's a problem, not how it normally operates. Mine reduces the volume. Built 3/10/2004 - single CD / Lariat

My truck is scheduled to go to the dealer on Monday. I'll update this thread when I learn more.

My 2004 Screw Lariat has the RSS and the 6disc cd-changer with DVD in the back seat, but it too does not mute or lower the radio...however the beeping is loud enough to be heard over most normal levels of the radio.

My truck was built 06/04.

I have an '04 SCAB Lariat with a build date of 5/2004 and the 6-disc audio system (non-audiophile) and the radio/music DOES mute when the reverse sensing system is engaged. Nice feature actually, but I don't see any option to turn this on or off.

My SCREW doesn't mute in reverse. Could it be the SCABs do, the SCREWs don't? Or maybe its where the truck was built, with the ones from KC not muting? Any SCABs from KC that do mute in reverse?

My truck was built in the Kansas City plant 9-03 and it does mute when the RSS comes on. I got a Screw.

My truck was built at the Norfolk, VA plant and, as I mentioned, it does mute in reverse.

Here's somewhat of an update...

I dropped the truck off at the dealer for 4 things:
(1) Fix the dealer installed remote start
(2) Address gear whine / howel / drone at 48-49 MPH
(3) Address RSS mute feature (lack thereof)
(4) Address poor low speed throttle response

Today, 9/30, they still have the truck.

The service boob told me on Tuesday that the:

(1) remote start is fixed
(2) They have ordered a complete rear axle assembly and are waiting for delivery!!!
(3) The truck did not come with the RSS mute functionality
(4) They cannot fix the low speed throttle responce (wasn't really there, I was trying to get a PCM re-flash/update)

So, the service boob can't explain why some trucks mute and some don't, but he has told me that mine doesn't and there's nothing he can do about it.

I would really like the mute feature, but it's not the end of the world.

Is it possible that trucks equipped with the actual AUDIOPHILE option and RSS have no mute whereas Non-Audiophile (single disc or 6-disc/no sub) and RSS do have the mute?

Anyway, the service boob said he will look into it, but I doubt he will come up with any real answer. What do y'all think???

Red L,

I don't understand it. THere seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why some trucks have the functionality and some do not. I don't get it.

BTW: Where'd you get the front "Lariat" plate and I dig the shelby taillight...

I don't know, but I guess I'm glad I picked the truck I did off the lot given that there were two identical ones out there...might not have had this feature. I wonder what other features I got that I don't know about...well, a failed O2 sensor was one of them.

Okay, so I'm an **** SOB, I want to figure this one out.

It has to come down to some combination of options. I'm looking at my window sticker and trying to figure out what could possibly have an impact on this feature. The next thing that comes to mind is the Captain's Seats with Floor Shifter vs. Bench and Column Shifter.

I have a...

2004 Lariat SCAB
Captain's Seats/Floor Shifter
6-disc (non Audiophile)
Built on 5/2004
Built in Norfolk, VA

I almost pasted my entire options list, but I think the above seem like the only things that could possibly affect this feature in particular.
