I am looking into getting an alarm system...

So today at school my good friend had some audio equipment stolen from his car. Over 700 dollars worth of equipment to be exact. Another student had his head unit stolen. I was parked right next to the car that had over 700 dollars worth of equipment stolen from it.

Now, I don't have anything in my truck that is worth stealing, but I want to be safe and get a car alarm since the 150's aren't fully equipped with a standard good quality one. I would rather just go all out on it so that I can be safe because the last thing I want to see after a hard day of school is a broken window on my truck. Yes I know that even with an alarm they may probably still do damage, but I want to be safe and know exactly when and where the damage is being done.

I have heard that Viper systems are the best. I would like some feedback about what you guys have installed on your trucks. Thanks.

-Spiro (BTW, my truck is a Lariat SCREW so it probably will look appealing to these vandals if they decide to keep doing what they have started.)

Most alarms are made overseas by one or two companies and then just rebadged for the company selling it as it's own. I like the Autoloc stuff. They make Stellar alarms and they integrate with the Autoloc remote keyless entry systems, power windows, power door locks, etc. You can get anything from entry switches to sonic sensors to radar units that just plug into the main box. Lifetime warranty, good tech support and great pricing. Contact Melinda at Auto_techs on ebay and tell her you heard it here for a special discount.

when i first bought my truck i wanted a system too. Did alot of research. Decided it was a waste of money. An alarm system does nothing for a smash and grab. Alarms keep punk kids away from your stuff maybe. Any professional is gonna laugh at ur alarm and take ur stuff anyways. I arrived at this opinion after speaking to 4 security shops in my area. It seemed as if they were trying to keep me from buying a system. DEI owns everything (clifford, viper, python etc.) and most alarms are the exact same thing with a different name. Dont be fooled by that if you buy one. If you absolutely HAVE to get one here is an excellent source for information. http://forum.sounddomain.com/forum/u...?ubb=forum;f=9

That lil blinking light on ur dash is prolly the best security system you have. It will fool someone into believing you have one and theives will keep walking unless they see great stuff inside.

Viper and the rest with the remote buzzer on the keychain are basically all the same. Figure it this way if someone wants your ****e someone is gonna get it.

I battled myself on wether or not to put a nice sounding system into my truck the last couple of weeks and I decided against it for the simple fact that here in California you cant keep a decent system in your truck for too long.

As stated previously the best deterent is that flashing little light on top of your dashboard as the best deterent to would be thieves. But a determined PoS thief is gonna get your ****e regardless what alarm you have installed.

Best advice is leave nothing in your truck for anyone to want. Dont leave your cell phone, CD's, etc etc etc... if you do get a system get all of it hidden to the best of your abilities. Dont go pounding your new soundsystem around your neighborhood it brings the thieves right to your front door.

Just my worthless 2 cents on the matter...

jvernacchio makes excellent points. Out of site, out of mind for thieves.

I had a Clifford alarm and loved it. Viper purchased Clifford years back from another company that was in financial woes. They still sell under the clifford name, and alot of the clifford technology has gone into the other lines. I'd buy it again for the name and quality. Plus, you get a couple extra bells & whistles with the premium Clifford name.
