A guy I know closely went from 3.73 gears to 4.56 with his 32's. His mileage actually increased a bit and the truck pulled much harder!

This is the exact reason you need to make good buddies with the guys at the 4x4 shop. One of my real good buddies installs lifts, gears, and everything else and can get me really good deals on anything. Their cost on any products (lifts, gears, bedliners, etc.) and near free installation.

Also, I heard that with a 6" lift and 35s if you regear it right you will get stock mileage?? That would be sweet, cause thats exactly what I want on my future truck.

Yes, basically, because you are getting essentially the stock gearing back, which means the right torque to the ground. The gearing allows you to turn the bigger wheels and tires more easily (very simplified). You still "might" lose a bit because the truck is now alot less aerodynamic. lol.

Isn't it roughly a $grand per axle to re-gear? And here's a lame question I'm sure: my truck currently has 3.55 w/o LS. Can I somehow get the limited slip functionality installed?

Since you're in there, just install an electric locker.....

$1K sounds high to me. Shouldn't take more than 2 hours per axle.....

So is the 4.56 the best gears for 35s? Would that be about the same ratio as stock tires with 3.73s.

Would these combos be all about the same ratio?

3.73-31s
4.11-33s
4.56-35s
4.88-37s

The tires on my 22's are 32" tall and I am running 3.55. What a slug it is. I am looking at going to the 4.10

Then as soon as Whipple or KB gets off their duff and starts shipping the SC, HHHMMMmm...

Is anyone (somail) getting noise from your 4.56 gears? I have a howl at 60 mostly pronounced when floating at this speed. 2 shops said its just about impossible with these gears to make them quiet because the manufactures have really dropped the ball on our housings. Since we don't have the standard 9" anymore, the gears have not been tried that much and the manufactures have given us lower prices at the cost of quality.

The howl developed after about 1000 miles. It's only at a narrow range of speed. They looked at the gears again, and could find no bad wear at all, they looked just fine. When you get to 1000 let me know if they are quiet or loud. Bigger gears are louder anyway but I liked my quiet ride.

What rear diff gear oil are you using? I have a friend with a stang that put in 4.10's and got a whine from them. He later switched out to Amsoil Synthetic rear diff/gear oil and he never had the noise again!

Sorry for the very late response.

Border parts is in lemon grove off 94. I believe install was $340.40. I had them installed at Steve Nelson Automotive in Lemon Grove.

I have not heard any whine coming from mine. If they are infact any louder I can not tell one bit.

The overhaul kit that I bought with the gears came with some synthetic oil. The guy (Who came very highly recomended) that installed the gears said he didn't use the synthetic stuff and used just normal rear diff oil.

I went to three off road shops in San Diego. All three gave me quotes of over $900. If you stay away from those specialty all-in-one shops and just shop around you can save a ton of money and get better quality service and parts.

mpg update?

Believe it or not I don't have any numbers yet. I am at school right now (UC DAVIS), and since my last post I have only used half a tank's worth of gas. I can tell you just by eyeing the gauge I am getting much better mpg, but there is no way I could post an accurate number.

Sorry about all the late responses.

Hello all. I am new here and look forward to learning from you guys, and girls too. I have an 06 F150, Harley edition with the 5.4, 2WD, and am running 22" wheels. It doesn't seem to have the acceleration that everyone talks about this engine having? It does have the 373 limited slip rear dif. Would raising the rear ratio to 410 or so help me much, or would it just kill my 14.5 mpg city driving miliage? Any and all responses welcome, THANKS! Keith
